Rising Stars: Meet Patrick Lee Hebert II of ALCOA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Lee Hebert II.

Hi Patrick Lee, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started learning languages in earnest when I was about 13. Growing up my father spoke to me in Canadian French and I learned phrases here and there. The first language I studied was French and I became infatuated with everything French! After that I started to dabble with other language like Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and German. I decided to stick with Spanish and focus on it rather than all those languages at once. A few years later, around 2019 I got really interested in Russian and it became my main focus for the next several years. I learned so much, including many songs, movies, sayings, and books. I make some friends and could practice speaking a lot compared to the other languages. This one really has a special place in my heart. To this day all my devices are in Russian! About two years ago I also found my other love. Arabic. This one is special to me becuase I am also a musician, and Middle Eastern music is so rich and fascinating, I just had to learn it. Over the years I have perfected my technique and method. Now I am a language coach in Alcoa. I have been trying to grow the business and teach more people how to love language learning. We are all capable of doing it, we just have to realize we want to. Learning languages has changed my life in dramatic ways and I will never stop learning!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Things have mostly worked out smoothly so far. However, the hardest thing sometimes is keeping people motivated. It is so easy to lose hope when learning a skill as difficult as a new language, but I always encourage my students to keep at it. It is a long process to master a language but with the right approach you can make it an exciting and fun journey!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in teaching how to learn any language in a fun and effective way. We are bombarded with apps and websites that promise fluency in X amount of time. However, the most important thing for learning is clear understanding and interest in the subject. My students can use me like a tutor to answer questions they have about their studies and I help them create a tangible “game plan” for learning language. I focus on making strong long term memory and quick retrieval of new words and phrases. I also like to use music to teach as I am a musician. Music can be a fun and exciting way to surround yourself with your target language.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
People may not know that I love old 20’s style music and juicy steaks!
