Rising Stars: Meet Morgan Ross of Knoxville, TN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Ross

Hi Morgan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have lived and worked in East Tennessee my whole life. I started pet sitting for neighbors, baby sitting for my mom’s pre schools kids, and learning how to make money and be dependable at a very young age. I grew up with salespeople and entrepreneurs in my family as well as restaurant/hospitality. I worked in restaurants throughout college as I studied All The Things. I never found my passion so graduated with an associates degree and continue bartending at a local corner bar. I had a regular there that told me I should get my real estate license, that I had the professionalism but personality for it. I hadn’t been down the real estate path in my many college majors yet so I went for it! The first few days I knew this was the career for me. Creativity, mixed with professionalism and integrity, all while mixing hospitality and service into it. I continued working here and there in restaurants to support my career but have recently let me liquor license expire and have ventured back into pet sitting and some reselling of vintage items! I guess you could say I have an entrepreneurial heart. I live in oak ridge with four rescue dogs and my husband who is an electronics technician here in oak ridge.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road and I don’t think it ever will be! That, to me, the challenge is what I love and hate. Working in service based industries off of tips and commission is always a roller coaster of income, emotions, planning etc. but, I have grown in so many areas and found support I needed from financial coaching to emotional intelligence training and organizational skills for my personality. I keep working and growing and it all works out.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in offering a laid-back and welcoming approach to the REALTOR client relationship. The stigma around a real estate agent is hard to overcome but for me I am the calm in the storm. Every transaction is stressful but I set myself apart by being the level headed sounding board of advice and guidance during that stressful situation. Helping my clients be confident and comfortable in their decisions. I want to be their local expert for life. I have lived in and around Knoxville my whole life and have a wonderful wealth of knowledge to share!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Recently in real estate we saw a huge shift with how real estate agents are paid and how that commission is discussed and advertised. It has forced us to be more transparent and have more communication with our clients and cooperating agents during transactions. This change will continue to force our industry to level up their negotiating strategies, become more creative and stronger in communication. As the industry continues to change due to the economy agents will need to be aware and knowledgeable of these changes to educate their clients. Like, homes sitting on the market for more than thirty days currently. How do you market that? You have multiple marketing plans and those plans are discussed with your client ahead of time! All about being prepared.
