Rising Stars: Meet Melissa Timm of Downtown West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Timm.

Hi Melissa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was 18, I got my first job at a local flower shop. From the very beginning I knew I wanted to own a florist one day. I fell in love with the creativity, the details, and the way flowers can transform a moment.

After working in the industry for several years, I was offered a position as the wedding florist for a local venue. That was the moment everything clicked for me. I knew weddings were what i wanted to focus on.

Fourteen years ago I opened my own wedding floral business here in Knoxville. What started as a dream has grown into
something I am so proud of. With the help of some amazing employees, we’ve had the honor of creating floral designs for so many wonderful couples. Along the way, our work has been featured in Vogue and People, which still feels surreal.

At the heart of it all, though, is the joy of serving my couples and being part of their most meaningful celebrations. Knoxville is where my dream started, and it’s still at the center of everything I do.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Running a wedding floral business means managing a team, juggling schedules and the pressure of making sure everthing is perfect on a couple’s wedding day. We started on limited funds and had to build a following.

The pandemic was definitely a challenge with brides having to cancel and reschedule.

The cost of doing business continues to rise, flowers, supplies, labor.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’ve become known for our original bridal bouquets. No two brides are the same, and I love creating a bouquet that feels like theirs-something personal , meaningful, and completely unique.

Beyond the bouquet, our team specializes in large centerpieces and floral installations that really transform a space.
Whether it’s and archway overflowing with blooms or dramatic pieces that set the tone for a reception, we love taking a couple’s vision and bringing it to life on a big scale.

What I’m most proud of is that I’ve built a business around something I truly love. From starting out as a teenager in a flower shop to creating a thriving floral studio in Knoxville, it’s been a journey.

i’m pround of the couples we’ve served and the trust they have placed in us. Seeing our work published in Vogue and People was an honor but what matters most is that our designs have left an impression on the the couple’s and families we’ve served her in Knoville.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Collaboration is one of my favorite parts of this work. I love getting to partner with wedding planners, venues, photographers, and other vendors to bring a couple’s vision to life.

For me collaboration looks like open communication, sharing ideas, and trusting each other’s expertise. I’ve been lucky to work with some incredible planners and vendors in Knoxville and beyond and those relationships mean so much.

The best way people can support us is by continuing to recommend us, tag us in photos, and think of us when couples are looking for wedding florals. Word of mouth and referrals from other trusted wedding professionals have helped grow my business more than anything else and I’m so grateful for that support.
