Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsi Walters.
Kelsi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My photography journey started completely by accident when I purchased my first camera around 5 years ago! I started to take photos just of friends and pets, until other people started to ask me to take their photos! Since then my business has grown by word of mouth and clients continuing to trust me by coming back every year for their photos! I’m so grateful this is my job and that it all started on a whim, which makes me believe this is what I’m supposed to be doing!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe no road is ever smooth or completely easy! There were definitely challenges, mine being that I still had three jobs on top of wanting to pursue photography, all while in college as well. There have also been struggles of if I thought I was good enough in this business, not being able to tell people no, overbooking myself – the list goes on and on. But I think going through every single hardship within this business and becoming a business owner, has done nothing but made me stronger!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Wedding Destination and Elopement Photographer! I specialize more in shooting couples but have a wide variety when it comes to what I’m booking and shooting! I love to capture couples in love and especially in beautiful places! Maternity sessions have my heart as well because motherhood is so special to capture! I would say I am known for my minis! Everyone always touches on how many mini-sessions I do and offer! I’m proud of how my business has grown due to my clients! I would never be where I am today without them. They are very reliable when it comes to coming back to me for multiple sessions and I am so happy about that! My personality definitely sets me apart from others in all aspects of life! I’m a fun loving person but also am so loud and goofy! Constantly ready to tackle the next thing on my agenda, and always looking for new opportunities!
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My favorite apps to use in my photography business are: Canva, Sunsurveyor, and SwipeMix! I also love the book, “Girl wash your face” by Rachel Hollis. It’s been extremely helpful reading that because it talks so much about not comparing yourself to others and in this business, it’s almost impossible not to do that!
