Rising Stars: Meet Katie Givens of Madisonville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Givens

Hi Katie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved fashion and personal style. I’ve always loved putting together outfits and following trends, but not necessarily wearing exactly what everyone else is wearing. That’s what I love most about personal style, is making it personal! I started out as a fashion and style blogger in 2011 while living in Knoxville. That has taken many different shapes throughout the past 14 years, and now I still share a lot on instagram from a personal style perspective but it’s mainly about shopping secondhand and shopping your own closet. I also own Statemint Monroe, a franchise of Statemint Knoxville. It’s a pop- up consignment shop.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not a smooth road, but it’s been a fun one! I love that my love for fashion and style has guided me through a lot of different career changes. I worked for JTV in Knoxville while I was blogging and sharing my corporate outfits. That led me to starting my own boutique that I ran with my best friend for almost 10 years, and now owning a pop-up consignment sale it allows me to still work in a field I love while being with my family, while living on a farm in my small hometown. It’s fun that I’ve always kept the fashion and style aspect of me in most things I do.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Right now I really am focusing on sharing more about shopping secondhand. Fast fashion is one of the biggest pollutors and no one is really talking about it. The rate we are shopping, consuming and buying has become so out of control. And even though I also LOVE shopping and trends and trying out new clothes and looks and outfits. I don’t want it to be at the cost of the planet and our well being. So I really want to share how easy and FUN shopping secondhand is. It’s a great way to change out your closet as often as you’d like without ruining the planet and your wallet.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
happiness & time freedom.
