Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Schonhoff.
Hi Carrie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the Midwest where I have spent the majority of my life. I also have a summer home in North Carolina. I have two children and two Italian greyhound dogs. I always loved writing but began writing poetry in earnest about five years ago.
I connected with an author, Simon Van Booy, and started on a journey to write and create poetry collections. I am a full-time business executive, but writing is my passion. I know my poems are meant to be out in the world to help others feel seen and understood.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was widowed in 2012 and that life challenge has taught me many things, some of which I write about, particularly in my first book. I found that my work resonates deeply with readers and pulls at the heartstrings of those that continue to face challenges but never stop dreaming. My second book of poems addresses the importance of healing, moving on, and being ready to face a new beginning.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I self-published my first book “The Liminal Space” in 2019 and it was well-received so I began work on a second book that was released in November 2021 called “The End of the Beginning”. Both are available on Amazon or you can find the links through my website www.liminalartistry.com.
This year, I created a company called Liminal Artistry so that I could showcase my poetry as well as my daughter Sydney’s artwork. There are weekly blog and inspirational entries on my social media to show our audience who we are and what inspires us as artists.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I enjoyed the work of author Simon Van Booy and when he had an opening for mentorship, I signed up and we got to work with my first book of poetry. I encourage all writers that want to bring their work to fruition and/or create a book to search and find a mentor. It made all of the difference for me to have a mentor, editor, and someone to encourage me every step of the way.
