Meet Victoria Carroll of Karns

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Carroll

Hi Victoria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Ever since I was a child I was obsessed with doing hair and makeup. In the beginning I imagined myself becoming a makeup artist someday, but later on I realized doing hair was my passion. I took cosmetology classes in high school, then attended Tennessee School of Beauty in 2020. Afterwards, I joined Ulta Beauty’s Salon as an assistant stylist. During my time at Ulta Beauty, I honed my skills and cultivated a loyal clientele. So, I took the plunge and opened my own suite at Salon Suites Karns in December 2023!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I attended beauty school during the pandemic, which was undoubtedly challenging. Learning cosmetology requires close interaction and hands on practice, which was significantly limited during that time. Later on, after I graduated beauty school, I had to balance a part-time retail job while working in the salon. I really wanted to focus on my career as a hair stylist, so this was a bit discouraging, but I pushed through it. One of the biggest obstacles I faced was overcoming fear. The thought of opening my own business was daunting, and I worried about potential failure and lack of client support. However, the encouragement and enthusiasm from my clients gave me the confidence to take the leap. Their belief in me fueled my determination, and I’m incredibly grateful for their ongoing support.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in color services, particularly lived-in color and balayage. I love the artistic aspect of color, as it allows me to experiment with different shades and techniques. I’m proud to say that in just three years I’ve grown significantly, overcoming my initial struggles with color formulation and transforming it into my favorite service to offer. Another proud moment for me was having one of my color transformations featured on Redken’s social media. It was a huge honor!
What sets me apart is my commitment to honesty and client satisfaction. I always strive to make sure my clients leave fully satisfied with their hair, and I’m always willing to make changes if necessary to make sure they’re happy. I’m also all about keeping my client’s hair healthy. I’m obsessed with creating beautiful, healthy hair. I won’t do anything that’s going to damage it, even if it means saying no to a trend. I’m here for long-term hair health, not just quick fixes. I’m constantly learning about new techniques and products to ensure my clients get the best possible results.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Honestly, what makes me happiest is connecting with my clients. I love hearing their stories, sharing laughs, and sometimes even offering a listening ear. And, of course, there’s the joy of giving them a hairstyle that makes them feel amazing. It’s a pretty great job!
