Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruthie Lyons.
Hi Ruthie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Prior to real estate, I worked as a Director of Sales and Marketing for IHG, Hilton and Marriott hotel brands for 14 years. Back in 2018 I started to experience burn out. I didn’t like what I was doing anymore and I felt stuck because I didn’t know what I wanted to do, and going back to school to rack up more student loan debt wasn’t an option. I began to pray for an opportunity to present itself, and was sure to keep and open mind about opportunities that came my way. In June of 2018 I has a weird dream that turned out to be one of my biggest blessing. In the dream I had a dialogue with myself and was told to go to real estate school because it was going to change my life. Within 24 hours I was enrolled in online real estate school and finished in one month. I passed the exams on the first try and the rest is history. I worked my full time job n tandem with real estate for 1 year and after that first year I walked away and have been selling real estate full time ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has been so tough. I dropped out of college after Sophomore year to have my daughter and to get married. My husband and I struggled most of our younger years. I was always determined to make a better life for my daughter and that’s always been my focus and my driving force. I’ve always felt like I was playing catch up when it came to life due to my having to leave school. As a working adult, I did eventually go back to school and get my bachelors but it was honestly all a blur because I was tired 100% of the time. I’ve always been a hard worker who doesn’t make excuses though. Whatever needs to get done, will get done bottom line. And that goes for myself and my clients. I think a lot of people are either street smart or book smart, but I think I’m both and I’ve leveraged that to get to where I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Lyons Collective Homes & Lifestyle. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Lyons Collective is a sophisticate real estate and lifestyle brand that focuses on providing top tier, white glove service to our clients looking to buy or sell real estate. The lifestyles piece focuses those elements that help make your house a home and provides that value through media and several upcoming projects we are working on that have not been released yet. Stay tuned for that.
Since day one in real estate I have always been the agent that focuses on standing out, and in turn, it helps my clients properties stand out. I’m client focused and solutions based so getting my clients what they need is always my top priority. If you’re looking to make a move in the near future, we are who you want on your team. Our creative approach to marketing will always serve you well and get those results you want.
How do you define success?
To be success means you’re at a happy place in life with whatever you do. There was a time in my life where I traded my time for money and I was completely miserable. I was ok with taking a pay cut to get into real estate as long as I was able to be a more present mom and wife. Everything worked out in my favor and I feel like I have been extremely successful in my new career. In my younger days I used to think winning trophies and acknowledgement was the name of the game, but these days I just want to provide for my family and be the best mom and wife I can be while helping others in the process. That’s more important that any trophy I could ever win.
