Hi Koresa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, I’m Koresa Dickey although many know me now as K. D. My journey in the hair industry began with a strong interest in the business aspect. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Business from Lane College before pursuing cosmetology at Douglas J Aveda Institute in Knoxville. Despite facing personal challenges, such as raising two children while working full time and attending school part time, I persevered and graduated as a licensed cosmetologist in 2012. Following my graduation, I started as an assistant at a local salon and worked my way up to becoming a commission stylist and eventually a booth renter. After honing my skills and building my clientele for about 3 years, I took the leap to open my own salon, K. D. Style Studio, within Sola Salon Suites in 2015. Realizing that I needed more space I decided it was time to move. Overcoming fears and challenges, I expanded my business to a full-service salon offering hair, makeup, nails, and skin services. I am proud to have retained my original team members from the beginning.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While the journey has not been without its challenges, every obstacle has been a valuable learning experience. Despite facing personal hardships, including a tough breakup and navigating single parenthood while pursuing my career, these challenges have shaped me into the resilient business owner I am today.

At K. D. Style Studio, we take pride in offering a wide range of services including hair, lashes, skincare, and nails. We strive to provide top-notch expertise in these areas. I personally specialize in hair color, extensions, and natural hair care.

We prioritize creating a welcoming and professional atmosphere where individuals can relax and express themselves freely. Our salon stands out as a one-stop destination for all beauty needs, where our clients can experience a variety of services under one roof. Collaboration and support among our team members are key elements that contribute to our collective success and growth. It’s important to us that everyone knows we are a black-owned business that serves a diverse clientele. We take pride in our craft and are committed to continuous improvement and growth in our skills.
What matters most to you?
Above all, what matters most to me is leaving a positive impact on others. I aspire for my name and business to evoke joy and meaningful connections for all who interact with us. I find fulfillment in inspiring young women to pursue their dreams without hesitation and to embrace their full potential.
