Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Moreau. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Kendra Moreau, the owner of the establishment, will welcome anyone who comes through the door with a cheerful smile and a listening ear. It’s not just because of her friendly nature, but because she is sure she is fulfilling God’s plan for her.
It started with a dream, as most things tend to, but there was something very different about these dreams. God was whispering His desires to her, showing her glimpses of a place where fellowship flowed freely and the Holy Spirit reigned. These visions didn’t stop, becoming stronger every day, pulling on Kendra’s heart and calling her to step out in faith.
However, there were a few problems. Kendra knew only enough about coffee to brew a pot in the morning before her shift at the hospital. The knowledge of ins and outs of running a business were not tools on her handy belt that she could reach.
What was God thinking? When she could no longer bear the weight of her calling, she made the confession to her family that she was planning to open a coffee shop. She wasn’t surprised at the heaping amount of doubt she received. How could she be sure that such a business would make it in a small town? How much did she actually know about coffee? But she didn’t let those questions keep her from diving headfirst into the task she was given.
A small historic building in downtown Sweetwater was available and itching to be restored to the glory it had never reached before. Agreements were made and walls were knocked down. Floors were buffed and drywall was painted. Through the obstacles Kendra battled along the way, God always provided.
Soon, the hiring process began and she was hanging up the sign her mother had made for her. It read: This is a kingdom business. We gave this company to the Lord and it is His.
Cup Runneth Over Coffeehouse has been open since March 1st, 2017. Although it has had its fair share of slow days, it has also had days where blessings heaped in abundance. This shop is about relationships. Their hope is that customers walk through the door and feel the love of the Father and know they have a home there.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We obviously met challenges during the pandemic like most small businesses. However, the Lord provided yet again. Our mobile app went live the same week we were mandated to close the doors which meant we were able to provide curbside pickup and delivery! Our sales actually went up and we didn’t have to lay off any staff!
After a couple of years in business, I realized we needed a way to offer drive-thru service to our customers; however, being in the downtown district, our building was not conducive to that.
After much thought and collaboration with the City of Sweetwater, we were able to create a mobile order pickup lane behind our building! Now customers can beat the line by placing their order via our mobile app, online, or calling ahead and we will run it out to them when it’s ready!
