Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Evylnn.
Hi Jason , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My wife Becca has been doing hair for 24 years, I have a strong background in business, i had been telling her she should open a Salon and she kept telling me that if she did she wanted to do it together as she didnt want to have to do any of the business side of it. She loves doing hair and teaching others how to do great hair, so we decided to open our salon last November- she does hair and coaching/teaching, and i run the business side. We have always worked great as a team- been married 18 years and never get tired of each other. We moved to East Tenn in 2021 and were flipping houses, my wife did not think she was going to start all over again rebuilding clients but she does great hair and slowly started getting referrals from friends at church and in the neighborhood- so she was trying to find a salon that she could work at part time just to do the clients vs doing them at our house. She could not find a salon that fit her style or what she was used to so we decided to build and open our upscale salon, with all the amenities that she was used to from all her salons in Cali. We have had a lot of clients that have found us that were traveling out to Knox and are so excited that they don’t have to do that drive anymore now that we opened here in Morristown. We fully renovated our space together (just her and I) last summer and opened out doors Nov 9, 2024- we currently have 807 clients and still have a few chairs open and recruiting.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been very smooth- we have been welcomed into our community with open arms, we have made a lot of connections, and my main job as the business side of things is our networking- i have gotten very involved with the Chamber of Commerce as a God Star member, Ambassador, and part of the Hype team for young professionals, Also was Ambassador of the month 2 months ago. I have also done a lot of community outreach to promote our salon and stylist. My mission as part owner is to make sure that Stylists and Aesthetician only need to focus on clients- i take care of everything else (online bookings, client outreach, website monitoring and updating, networking, payroll, accounting, inventory control, ordering, scheduling, etc). We have a “hire slow” mentality to build the best team possible, ensuring the culture of our salon is welcoming and comforting for our clients and any new hires.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Becca is an artist at heart, a great stylist needs to have a natural artistic ability to be able to see what needs and can be done. They need to be able to see the potential of what can be and relay that into their work, which she is great at and is great at teaching our other stylists to do the same. She does murals on the side, interior decorating and home design- she has a crazy natural ability to walk into a space and know what needs to be done to make it more inviting, updated, and overall better.
As for myself, I have many talents but the artistic abilities do belong to Becca. I have my MBA, self made contractor and currently working on my state license for general contracting, a certified chef from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school, a DJ with many events under my belt, ordained minister with multiple weddings performed, but my best achievements are being a loving husband and father to our 2 boys (15 & 11).
What do you like and dislike about the city?
We love Morristown, we are right on Main St. in the Downtown area, this is exactly where we wanted to be and God helped get us here. We love the people, the businesses around us, the community support, our Chamber is very active and supportive, and our clients are all valued and treasured.
