Today we’d like to introduce you to Iryna Bublyk.
Hi, Iryna; thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The year 2022 became the year that divided my life into before and after. In my native country, a war began. Before the war, I was a successful makeup artist, the owner of a beauty studio in the capital of Ukraine, and a teacher and mentor to my students. The war became the reason for closing the studio and moving to the USA, where I am trying to build my brand and develop my business from scratch.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a migrant, I encountered challenges from the first day in a new country, from cultural differences and language barriers to adapting to new trends in the beauty market and establishing networking connections.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My adaptation process has started very actively. While working on obtaining my license, I conducted online makeup training and created an online course, which is now available on my website. To enhance my visibility in the new market, I completed marketing courses, enabling me to find my first clients and connect with incredible people in this region. Thanks to my unique technique, I’ve won the hearts of women, some of whom have become my regular clients. Although a language barrier persists, I continue to improve my English with a tutor to enhance interactions with clients and colleagues. Adapting to a new work environment and establishing industry connections take time. Actively participating in beauty events and collaborating with photographers and wedding vendors, I broaden my network and learn more about the local beauty industry. It’s been almost a year since I moved. Through my proactive approach and communication skills, I’ve achieved a lot—from featuring on the cover of an American magazine to participating in Hollywood film shoots. I aspire to contribute my unique touch to the diversity and creativity of the local beauty industry, continuing to empower women through the art of makeup. Hence, my next significant goal is to open a professional makeup school to share my knowledge and experience with a broader audience of beauty professionals.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
The best teacher is real-life experience – when you can’t give up and must find the strength to keep moving forward. Along this journey, the stories of other migrants who have walked a similar path have been inspiring. I am deeply grateful to all the people who provided invaluable help through information and support!
