Meet Grace Satterfield of Rocky Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Satterfield

Hi Grace, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We are a family workshop! Caleb creates the wooden bookends and
scroll saw figures. I do the stained glass. Our baby and toddler are
excellent apprentices for now. We absolutely LOVE running this
shop because we get to create our art and interact with people who
enjoy it and want it in their homes!

Caleb learned woodworking from his dad and is constantly
brainstorming new projects. We decided to sell his handcrafted
bookends when I ran out of room to display them on our own
bookshelves.

I learned stained glass art from my grandmother and cherish every
minute I had learning from her excellent craftsmanship. It is a joy to
create designs we made together while developing new ones I know
she would love, too!

We now run an Etsy shop and online website to sell our work. We create everything by hand in our workshop (our garage!) and package and ship or deliver everything ourselves.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s tough to run every aspect of a small business while raising kids. We are always busy, but we appreciate every minute of work because it allows us to invest in our family.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Stained glass (me) and scroll saw bookends (Caleb). We create our own designs and deliver truly unique pieces. Our art is generational so we take pride in every step and honor our customers and the family who taught us our crafts with top-quality work.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I remember first learning stained glass from my grandmother when I was 15 and being intimidated by all the steps (not to mention the shards of glass everywhere) but she worked with me for years and now I find so much joy in it.
