Life & Work with Wendi Olson of Sweetwater

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendi Olson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We are Casey and Wendi Olson. Casey is originally from Sitka, Alaska, and Wendi from Washington State. For many years the Pacific Northwest was our home and two of our three children were born there. It’s a beautiful place, but it just wasn’t for us in recent years and souls were guided seamlessly to East Tennessee.

Although we had never even visited Tennessee, we felt like the holy spirit paved a way for us, and led us to the little town of Sweetwater, TN. In the summer of 2021, we stumbled upon and purchased an incredible historic and whimsical manor built in 1859 on Sweetwater Creek, beside the train tracks. It was originally called The Brookside farm, and no known lovingly as “The Whistlestop Manor”.

This amazing property has enough room and land that we knew it would be perfect for our dream of working as a family to keep us both home with our three kids. It has been one wild ride… but there is nothing compared to watching your wildest dreams come true.

Casey is a journeyman electrician by trade but now manages the property. Taking care of a 165 year old expansive estate and our sprawling grounds is a full time job. Wendi has a background in public relations and extensive restaurant experience, and loves to cook and entertain. Together in our new home we are blending our love, talents, hopes and dreams into one special place we call home: Whistlestop Manor

We truly love what we do and know that this is a very unique and special calling we get to take part in, life is fleeting so you better enjoy it and love each other.

Love,

The Olson’s

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has most definitely not been a smooth road, rather bumpy quite honestly. Moving across the country, with no friends or family in our new state has been challenging to say the least
We also got pregnant with our third child shortly after arriving in Tennessee. Add a 166 year old house and starting a business from scratch to this equation and you’ll get our current reality.
It has all been a whirlwind, sometimes terrifying and other times extremely rewarding but we wouldn’t change a part of our story for anything. We’ve been divinely guided by a force much greater than us.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The Whistlestop Manor is all of my wildest dreams come true in the form of a 166 year old estate.
I personally plan and execute each and every event here at the Manor and I promise to put my heart and soul into every endeavor.
Cooking, decorating, anything vintage and parties are my passion.
I am also a private chef for hire if I need to go to you!
Murder mystery dinners have been out claim to fame and we truly love hosting them. We have at least one open party per month for groups of any size and with 12 or more guests you can book a private murder mystery dinner.
We also have three luxury suites available for overnight lodging.
Our costume room, is full of vintage clothes, props, gowns, hats and accessories.
We also host high teas throughout the year.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We’re so proud of this historic home and all of our events. We want everyone to come and feel the magic that The Whistlestop Manor offers.
