Life & Work with Taryn Yager

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taryn Yager.

Taryn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Photography has always been a love of mine. I can’t remember a time I didn’t own a camera! When my oldest son was born in 2009, I knew I needed the best camera I could get my hands on. At that time, I simply just wanted to get the very best photos of him, but as I took more photos I quickly became obsessed with perfecting the art. I quickly began taking my camera everywhere, and I found it fun to share with others the photographs I was creating. I shyly created a Facebook fan page and began to share my work. I was amazed when people started to request I take pictures of their children and families. That’s when I decided to create Taryn Yager Photography.

As a new photographer, it took me some time to realize that my favorite subjects to photograph were babies! It is such an incredible honor for me to take a newborn’s first photos. In 2014 I was contacted by the reality tv show, Bringing up Bates, to photograph one of the star’s newborns. Bringing up Bates opened so many doors for my career. I since have been featured on Up TV, in People Magazine, UsWeekly, and Foxnews and have had many other amazing opportunities. I am now the leading Knoxville newborn photographer photographing over 200 newborns a year.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the world of photography, it can be difficult to stand out. It’s easy to get a camera and Youtube can teach people how to use it.

So, It wasn’t until I chose my niche, newborns, that I really found it easier to showcase what I consider myself to have the best “eye’ for! I was in the baby phase with my own family and I knew how important it was to capture all the little details of a newborn.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in Newborn photography. Newborns are best photographed in the first two weeks of life and at this stage, they can be posed in the most precious positions. I love to focus on the details like the baby rolls, the long lashes, and the simplicity of their profiles.

I often hear the term “baby whisper” as I often am able to get a baby “that never sleeps” to sleep. My work is showcased in business across East Tennessee, as well as in People Magazine, Us Weekly, Foxnews, and on episodes of Bringing Up Bates on UpTV.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
You can never stop learning. I often compete with myself and want to do better than the session I had before.

Photography is an art and you can’t compare yourself to other artists!

Pricing:

  • The photograph is an investment and a typical newborn session is around $300-$500
