Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Christensen.
Hi Jamie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I had my third baby in 2022, at the time I was in my 10th year of nursing and feeling pretty burnt out in the field. I had always taken photos of my kids and family for fun – my mom and I were always told we should be in photography for a living because we took so many photos. Towards the end of my maternity leave, I felt called to pick up my camera and take some online lessons. By the time 3 months had passed, I knew photography was a going to be a huge part of my life and I’m so glad I took the leap of faith! I went back to nursing “PRN” and currently work in a Neonatal ICU two days a week. The rest of my time is spent with my family and focusing on my photography business which really took off in 2024!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh photography has NOT been a smooth road! I’ve learned a LOT of lessons along the way. Learning about my ideal clients, which sessions to take and not take and time management between my business, my job and my family have all been huge learning curves. Each time I take on a new photography challenge, I learn something new. Photography is ever changing, much like the nursing field, which I love so much.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I think my calling is to love people. I have a personal relationship with Jesus – I try to live as a saved person, free to love others with Jesus in my heart. I want to bless as many clients as I can through photography. I love taking care of infants and families in the NICU – just like I love to watch families through my camera lens, watching them be silly or serious, loving on each other, it means so much to me to be able to capture those special memories for families to keep forever. I volunteer for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, a non-profit organization that captures photos of stillborn infants for their families for free. Not nearly enough people understand how important photography is until that’s all you have left of your loved one. I cherish each and every client that trusts me to make those memories for them. I suppose if I had to choose, newborn shoots are my favorite. I love when I get a sleepy yawn or a big smile, or even that grumpy face that the parents have come to love. I also recently began specializing in weddings and engagements which is a new love of mine! I really enjoy family and extended families as well.
