Inspiring Conversations with Whitney Evans of Whitney Evans Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Evans Whitney Evans Beauty.

Hi Whitney Evans, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?

In 2006, I was your typical college girl—obsessed with all things makeup and hair, always helping my sorority sisters get ready for formals, game days, and date nights. I loved the transformation, the confidence boost, and the joy it brought to the girls around me. Deep down, I knew I had found my passion.

In 2007, I took a leap of faith and left college to enroll at the Tennessee School of Beauty. It felt bold at the time, but I knew I was chasing something that truly lit me up. I was incredibly fortunate to have amazing mentors early on in my career—people who poured into me, challenged me, and helped me grow behind the chair and beyond it.

After years of building a loyal clientele, I found myself craving a new creative outlet. In 2015, I started beauty blogging as a way to share inspiration and tips beyond the salon. That little spark turned into Whitney Evans Beauty.

Not long after, I took another big step: I left the salon I was working at and opened a solo studio where I could both blog and do hair. But it didn’t take long to realize something important—I’m a team girl at heart. I missed the energy, the laughter, and the collaboration that came with salon life.

The dream began to shift again.

I found a bigger space off Callahan Drive and hired my very first stylist, Ashlond Webb. As our clientele grew, so did our team—with the additions of Jessica Waggoner and our first associate stylist, Hana Marsh, in 2017. Since then, we’ve grown steadily and organically into the 18-person team we are today.

I never set out to own a salon this big—it truly just unfolded with time, passion, and the right people. But what fills me up every single day is mentoring young women in this industry and cultivating a culture where getting your hair done feels like something truly special. Whether you’re a client in the chair or a team member behind it, our hope is that you feel welcomed, loved, and right at home.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

There have definitely been struggles along the way—one of the hardest was navigating the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. I had just welcomed my first child and was preparing to return from maternity leave when we were forced to close the salon for eight weeks. Balancing postpartum recovery with the uncertainty of that time was incredibly challenging, but we came out stronger than ever.

I’ve made mistakes and I’m far from perfect—leadership can be tough. But I believe in learning from every setback and continuing to grow. What keeps me going is my incredible team. Their leadership, dedication, and heart give me purpose and remind me why I do what I do every single day.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What does success mean to you?
Success, for me, is building a career and brand rooted in purpose—where creativity thrives, people are empowered, and every person who walks through the door feels seen, loved, and celebrated.

It’s mentoring young women in the beauty industry, helping them grow in both skill and confidence. It’s creating a team-first culture where collaboration matters more than competition. It’s being brave enough to pivot, take risks, and follow what lights me up—even when the path isn’t perfect.

But true success isn’t just what happens in the salon—it’s also being present for the moments that matter most at home. It’s creating a life where I can pour into my career and still have the energy to be a loving wife, a hands-on mom, and someone who doesn’t miss the sweet, everyday moments with my kids.

Success is watching my team thrive, my clients leave glowing, and knowing that what we’re building at Whitney Evans Beauty is so much more than hair—it’s a space of joy, growth, and belonging, all while living a life I genuinely love.
