Inspiring Conversations with Sonja Thompkins of Sonja Thompkins Life & Business Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonja Thompkins.

Hi Sonja, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I’m Sonja. I’m an intuitive Life & Business Transformation Coach, wife, and homeschooling mom. I began my entrepreneurial journey when I became a licensed cosmetologist in Missouri and worked as a self-employed stylist at the age of 18 until I opened my own day spa salon at the age of 24.

I quickly grew my clientele based on word of mouth and referrals from other clients who simply adored my presence because I had a way of making them feel seen and heard and empowered.

That became even more relevant when just a few years later I opened up my first of three women’s apparel boutiques in the midwest. Again the success of those businesses was fueled by the level of care and attention our customers received and how they felt about themselves way after the purchase.

At that time, I had no idea that those were the beginnings of the empowerment coaching that I now do through my two signature programs for ambitious women and female entrepreneurs.

In 2007, I relocated to the Clarksville area to be with my new fiance’ who works as a federal firefighter at the Fort Campbell army base. We love living in Middle Tennessee where we now raise and homeschool our son.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I definitely would not say that my journey has been smooth, but it hasn’t been bumpy either. I think the term I would use is “constantly evolving.

The biggest struggles for me have been internal. There’s a lot of doubt, second-guessing, and questioning that comes with living life to the fullest. Like “is this what I’m supposed to be doing?” “Am I really cut out for this?” “Okay I know, I am but this doesn’t match what I thought it would look like!”.

That’s why I’m really big into self-awareness and helping my clients become very conscious of where they are in their life right now because knowing where you are right now is way more helpful in helping you navigate to where you want to be versus thinking you’re in the same place or emotional state that you were in when you initially set out with certain goals or expectations for yourself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m an intuitive Life & Business Transformation Coach – I specialize in helping ambitious women and female entrepreneurs recognize and release sabotaging habits so they can be more confident doing life and work on their own terms.

Because I have extensive practical experience running multiple businesses both online and in local communities while in my twenties, thirties, and now my forties, as a single woman now married and as a work from home mom who homeschools, I bring a very unique perspective that most coaches or mentors don’t have that allows me to relate to my clients experiences both personally and professionally in a holistic way.

What matters most to you? Why?
It changes based on different seasons of my life. In this season, what matters most is that people learn and remember how great they are. That it’s okay to be themselves and that collectively we all need each other to sustain.

This is important to me because when anyone is suffering or doesn’t know their own value, it’s almost impossible for them to fully value others.
