Today we’d like to introduce you to Seanna Jones.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
There was a series of events in my prior career life that showed me that track was not sustainable. Now here I was in my thirties choosing to reinvent my career identity. I knew I had to develop a better understanding of my strengths so I could see other options. I asked myself, “What have other people said they think I’m good at?” I remembered in elementary school that both peers and teachers thought I was a good listener. I was fortunate to have positive experiences with therapists over the years so when I was deconstructing my old career identity and wondering what a new career identity could be I thought “Well let me go to school to learn how to listen the right way.”
I investigated options in the therapy world and graduate programs and found the right fits for licensure type and graduate school. I became a Licensed Professional Counselor / Mental Health Service Provider. Once I knew I wanted to be a therapist I knew early in process that I wanted to end up being a solo private practitioner. I was fortunate to have the full support of family and friends as I navigated the licensure process and, when the time was right, to start my private practice.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A therapist’s licensure journey most always has obstacles. Some of mine involved needing to move out of state a few times so trying to make a round peg from another state fit into a square hole of the current state regarding paperwork was very challenging.
Once I began setting up my “business baby,” identifying what was giving me anxiety about certain business related aspects was a very necessary task to reducing overall stress. I found that lessons learned when I was younger were at the root of this. My biggest takeaway from resolving this is that I could do what I want to do with the right tools and the right help. The right tools and the right help are out there for you too!
I highly recommend doing the personal work to address anxiety triggers because there will be enough things to deal with without having the stressors start from within.
We’ve been impressed with East TN EMDR, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I provide outpatient mental health therapy to individuals over age 18. I specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy which I’ve been passionate about since I first heard of it. EMDR works for issues that we see as trauma as well as many issues that we may not think of as trauma. Being an EMDR Certified Therapist™ has allowed me to engage in work that doesn’t feel like work. I am known for being enthusiastic, transparent, offering great customer service and prompt responses. I love being a small practice and I am the kind of boss to myself that I like.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I can be expressive in session so folks can be surprised to learn I am quite the introvert that doesn’t need a lot of excitement in my down time!
