Today we’d like to introduce you to Betty Shreffler.

Hi Betty , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Burnout Was My Catalyst: How I Became a Wellness Practitioner
By Betty Shreffler

In 2020, I found myself at a crossroads—burned out, overwhelmed, and disconnected from my own well-being. Writer’s block consumed my creativity, anxiety attacks disrupted my work, and my depression and PTSD reached its lowest point. My body reflected this struggle, manifesting in unexplained health issues that doctors couldn’t pinpoint. Despite normal test results, I knew something deeper needed attention.

A pivotal anxiety attack led me to seek talk therapy, which helped me uncover unresolved trauma. But I soon realized healing required more than addressing symptoms—it needed a holistic approach that nurtured and healed my mind, body, and spirit.

Determined to heal at the root level, I immersed myself in studying holistic health and alternative medicine. Through this journey, I discovered the profound impact of stored trauma, chronic stress, and emotional burdens on physical and mental health. I explored various healing modalities, but three resonated most deeply: sound healing, breathwork, and yoga.

Sound healing became a sanctuary—melting away stress, soothing my nervous system, and fostering emotional balance. The gentle vibrations eased tension in my body, improving my patience, mood, and overall mental health. It became my go-to practice for relaxation and alignment.

My transformational experience with breathwork happened unexpectedly at a yoga retreat. In a group session, I felt years of repressed trauma rise to the surface, followed by a cathartic release—without needing to speak or relive painful memories. The technique worked through me, lifting emotional weight and dissolving limiting beliefs. I left the session feeling lighter, more free, and profoundly changed.

With regular sound healing, breathwork, yoga, meditation, and outdoor recreation, I reclaimed my well-being. My creativity returned, my exhaustion lifted, and my anxiety and depression faded away—even in crowded spaces. Stress no longer controlled me, and resentment no longer lingered. I moved beyond trauma in ways I never thought possible, even discontinuing anxiety and depression medications—an achievement I deeply cherish.

The benefits extended beyond me. Tuning forks relieved my joint and muscle pain, alleviated insomnia, and released the chronic tension I once carried. My family experienced similar transformations—my husband found relief from stress and pain, and my niece and nephew, both neurodivergent, responded beautifully to the calming effects of sound healing. Watching my nephew, who is non-verbal, instinctively seek out the tuning forks reaffirmed my belief in the power of this work.

Inspired by these profound shifts, a new passion arose and I pursued professional training and certifications in holistic healing so I could share these modalities with others.

Through my business, Women’s Wisdom and Wellness, I offer holistic healing services that provide stress relief, nervous system regulation, trauma healing, and the opportunity to reclaim mental and emotional well-being. Whether through Sound Therapy, Somatic Breathwork, Yoga, or Trauma-Informed Wellness Coaching, I am honored to guide others toward deeper healing, balance, and renewal.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Healing is not linear, nor is it comfortable. It requires a mindset shift and a deep commitment to choosing yourself and your healing. In our society, we’ve been taught that prioritizing self-care over the needs of others is selfish—but that belief is misguided. When we neglect our own well-being, we experience burnout, fatigue, mood swings, sleep deprivation, and, if left unaddressed, dis-ease in the body can manifest as disease.

This is a topic I teach often, because true mindset change begins with understanding that self-care is not a luxury—it is essential to our physical, mental, and emotional health. To serve and care for others with the best of ourselves, we must make our own well-being a priority. We cannot pour from an empty cup, nor can we grow without nourishment.

This is a lesson I had to learn personally, and it has become a cornerstone of my work. Whether the goal is personal growth or business expansion, it starts with shifting the mindset. By nurturing ourselves and moving through the discomfort that healing demands, we unlock profound transformation.

For many clients, embracing self-love and self-care is one of the greatest initial challenges. Yet once that shift takes root and they witness the transformation that healing and self-care bring, their outer world begins to mirror their inner world. Consistent self-care and healing become the foundation for greater well-being, inner peace, and joy.
