Inspiring Conversations with Annie Dugger of AnnieBeth Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Dugger.

Hi Annie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I first began my photography business as just a hobby. I wanted to capture my daughter growing up and the important milestones and memories that come with it. The more I posted the more interest I got from friends and family wanting their photos done. Before I knew it my “hobby” was now a way that I could provide for my family and stay home with my daughter. Eventually my outdoor lifestyle photography business transformed into owning my own little studio in the middle of our sweet little town. I got to be the photographer I am today because of the kindness and love that comes with capturing important moments for others and most importantly the good Lord above who has provided and guided me every step of the way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There is nothing smooth about running a business; the good does outweigh the bad by far and it has been absolutely worth it every step of the way, but it has been challenging, exhausting (mentally and physically), and there’s been times I wanted to just give up. There has been so many amazing clients, but with that comes clients you can’t always please. The best thing you can do when times get rough is keep your eyes on the good and the positive and most importantly just do your best.

As you know, we’re big fans of AnnieBeth Photography. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I offer a variety of sessions and packages for families, children, expecting parents, newborns etc. I love providing packages because it gives an opportunity for me to get to know people better and provide better services based off of their specific needs and personality. I also love to give discounts with packages because I know just how important capturing the moments are.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Investing can be such a risk to take. You kind of get into doubting yourself when you’re about to take a risk. I always think “will enough people be interested in these mini sessions?” when purchasing props, equipment, set ups, etc. Sometimes you lose money trying to take risks and it’s really just a part of it. You get to know your audience and what they look for and want to book most. Investing in new camera lenses or camera bodies is also extremely scary when you get settled and use to what you’ve been working with, but sometimes it can be a complete game changer for your business.
