Hidden Gems: Meet Taylor Davis of Winged Out Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Davis.

Hi Taylor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have had an interest in makeup for as long as I could remember. All through school, I was always doing all my friend’s makeup for events and things. When I got to college, I had the awesome opportunity to assist a local wedding makeup artist. It was such an amazing experience, and I learned so much from her. I always said to myself I would always do makeup on the side.

In my mind, being a makeup artist was not a realistic full-time job. So, after graduating from The University Of Tennessee in December of 2019 with a degree in Public Relations and a minor in business, I had no idea what I wanted to do. This lead me to apply seasonally at Sephora just until I could get my bearings and figure out what was next. I got the job and told them all about assisting through college, and how I loved doing makeup.

It was perfect timing as Sephora was switching to a paid services model and needed licensed artists. My boss pulled me aside and asked if I would be interested in going to get my esthetic license for them. This totally changed the path of my future, and I am so grateful to Sephora. It felt like divine timing as I was in the perfect position to go get my license, so, I did. I graduated from Aveda in June of 2020.

I started Winged Out Beauty in that same year. I am so proud to say that just last month I was able to take Winged Out Beauty full-time. I have created a business that I love and am so passionate about. I still cannot believe I get to do this as a career.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh goodness, there were certainly some struggles.

Getting my license and starting my business in the middle of Covid is definitely high on the list. I was so lucky I had my family and Sephora at that time.

Mentally, it has been a learning process as I have really been figuring out a lot of things as I go. I luckily have met a lot of amazing people in the industry that have given me great advice.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Winged Out Beauty is a luxury makeup services company. Winged Out Beauty provides makeup for all events and occasions, specializing in bridal makeup. Winged Out Beauty also has a lash line of luxury mink lashes and lash accessories.

I feel like what sets Winged Out Beauty apart is my approach is makeup. I never want any of my brides or clients to look back at pictures and feel like they don’t look like themselves. I want to enhance your natural beauty. I think that is why my brides seek my artistry out. However, I love a good full glam and will pull that out whenever requested!

I am most proud of branching out of just freelancing into designing my line of lashes. I love each style so much. I have named a lot of them after important people in my life. I have a couple more people that don’t have a lash named after them yet, so I plan on launching more styles soon. I love getting to use them on my clients. It is so special being able to share them with my clients in my chair, as well as with my customers all over the country.

I am so passionate about doing makeup not only because it is fun and beautiful, but because of how it can make you feel. There is no more fulfilling feeling than when I hand my client the mirror and they see themselves. The confidence that shines out of them is more beautiful than any makeup I could put on them.

Being able to give my clients that feeling for some of the biggest moments of their life is why I do what I do.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I have always been a very outgoing person. I was a very involved child all throughout school.

I was in everything from cheerleading too. musical theatre. I loved anything that involved a full face of makeup and a costume. I was very interested in everything creative and crafty. I loved painting and even had a dog portrait business. I feel like that ability has really lent itself to making artistry.

Something about my personality from my childhood that has followed me into adulthood is how I treat people. I have always strived to make people feel seen, heard, and appreciated. I have always had a very big heart for people. I feel like if you were to ask anyone who knew me growing up, that is something they would say.
