Today we’d like to introduce you to Kami Morgan
Hi Kami, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I first became involved with Xander’s Place through my connection with Mindy, the founder. I met her years ago while working as her teaching assistant in a special needs CDC classroom. Even then, I was inspired by her dedication to empowering children with special needs and supporting their families. When she launched Xander’s Place, I knew I wanted to be part of its mission to create a stronger, more inclusive community.
At Xander’s Place, we’re dedicated to serving families of children with special needs by connecting them to vital resources they might not know exist. We help families find specialized doctors, dentists, therapists, and sensory-friendly services. We work with businesses to create sensory-sensitive spaces, ensuring children and their families feel welcome in public settings. Additionally, we collaborate with schools, businesses, and community organizations to build inclusive environments, like calm-down rooms at events or tools to support families navigating the complexities of education.
This work is deeply personal to me because I know how overwhelming the journey can be for families. I’m passionate about empowering them with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to thrive. Helping families feel seen, understood, and included is at the heart of everything we do at Xander’s Place.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting Xander’s Place has been an incredibly rewarding journey, but it hasn’t been without its challenges. One of the biggest obstacles we’ve faced is securing the financial funding needed to bring our vision to life. We have big ideas and a clear mission to support families of children with special needs, but many of our plans are on hold until we can gather the necessary resources to implement them fully.
We dream of expanding our outreach, offering more sensory-friendly spaces, and connecting even more families with critical resources, but these efforts require funding for materials, programs, and staff. For example, we’ve seen the difference sensory-sensitive environments can make for families, yet creating these spaces often comes with costs beyond what we can currently afford. Similarly, we want to provide sponsorships for families to receive necessary educational advocacy services, but without adequate funding, we’re limited in how many families we can support.
Despite these challenges, we remain committed to our mission and continue to push forward. We’ve been incredibly blessed with the support of local businesses, community members, and organizations, but we know there’s so much more we can do. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to realizing our goal of empowering families and fostering inclusion. The families we serve deserve so much, and we’re determined to keep finding ways to make our big ideas a reality.
As you know, we’re big fans of Xander’s Place . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Xander’s Place is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families of children with special needs by connecting them to vital resources and creating inclusive environments. We know how overwhelming it can be for families to navigate the complexities of special education, medical needs, and social inclusion, so we step in to bridge those gaps and provide the tools they need to thrive.
We connect families with specialized doctors, dentists, therapists, and sensory-friendly services—resources that are often hard to find without guidance. We also work with local businesses and organizations to create sensory-sensitive spaces, ensuring families feel welcome in public settings. Whether it’s setting up a calm-down room at a community event or helping a business design a sensory-friendly area, we strive to make the world a more inclusive place for every child.
What makes Xander’s Place truly special is our commitment to meeting families where they are. We help them navigate the overwhelming red tape of special education, offering guidance and advocacy to ensure their children receive the support they deserve. We dream big, and one of our goals is to sponsor families so they can access educational advocacy services, especially those in foster care or facing financial hardships.
The work we do is so necessary because these families often feel isolated or underserved, yet their children deserve every opportunity to thrive. Xander’s Place makes a tangible difference by not only providing resources but by offering hope and community. Seeing the relief on a parent’s face when they realize they aren’t alone and the joy of a child feeling included and understood—that’s what makes Xander’s Place so amazing.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
