Today we’d like to introduce you to Herman Prater Jr.
Hi Herman, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my photography journey in June 2018. I’ve shot everything from weddings, and conferences, to brands and portraits within a short amount of time. Just thinking from where I started to where I am now is truly been a blessing. What’s funny is I never thought I would be a photographer like that for real, lol.
Growing up my father (who is also a photographer) would get me those Kodak & Fuji Film throw-away cameras that had like 24 exposures on them, and I would document life moments. As an adult, now, it seems as if those gifts stuck and never left. I believe one of the greatest things one can do is turn their passion into something meaningful.
As an artist, photography has allowed me to create some images that I’m honestly still blown away that I took. Growing up during an era where visuals were more of a feel is the same aesthetic I bring to my art.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ll keep it real. It’s been very up and down. Being an entrepreneur isn’t always easy. I’ve had some amazing moments, but I’ve definitely had those moments where I didn’t always feel my best.
For a while, I took some time away from photography. I didn’t want to create anything. I believe with anything you do you have those moments where you just want to take a break due to being overwhelmed by everything. Sometimes a hard reset is needed to get you back on the right path and to come back as a better you.
I think if we understood that even at some of our lowest moments is where some of the most beautiful beginnings take root and grow.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a Wedding and Portrait Photographer based out of Chattanooga, TN. Each wedding experience is completely different than the previous one because each love story has its own unique background. I love capturing love. Those happy, the moment still shots come together in the end to tell the bigger picture.
As the saying goes, a picture is worth 1000 words and I believe that to be true. I also believe what sets me apart is my willingness to be better than I was the day before. Each day is an opportunity to learn something new, take chances, and live life.
Being able to explore creatively is something I am most proud of with my brand. Pushing the envelope, and bringing those emotions to life. The freedom to freely create what you want, and how you want keeps you from being boxed in. Every day I’m evolving as a student of the arts.
