Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Kaylece.
Hi Brianna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My entrepreneur story starts from the time I was in third grade selling hair clips with string braids attached to them at school so I could get a fish tank at home. Beauty and entrepreneurship have always been in my blood for as long as I can remember. I tell all my closest friends that they can look at my nails and see my mental state as I will always have my nails done. I started diving deep into the beauty world in middle school by doing intricate braiding techniques on myself and miniature painting, such as Vincent van Gogh starry night on a set of nails I always knew that the “traditional route” of Schooling was not for me or my journey. I graduated high school and cosmetology school at the same time! It took some talking into for my parents to let me go to school, but alas, do they see that it has paid off now! After graduating And building up my clientele, I got married in Utah (where I grew up), (yes I grew up with the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and the Sister Wives), at the age of 20 Just two years after I graduated schooling, I was pushed into a position to open my free first salon with a fellow stylist. All of the salons in our area were closing on us and we had to have somewhere to work, so why not do it ourselves! We had 10 Beauty artists working in our shop and it was very successful and so many lessons learned! Little did I know that that was going to be salon one of three. After a few years, my husband (now Ex-husband) Graduated and we moved out to Tennessee. I closed Portion of the salon and left it to my co-owner. Once again, I built my clientele from the ground up, not knowing anybody in Knoxville! At this time, I was only offering eyelash extensions as it was my main passion and expertise. When I got to Tennessee, I focused on my education and now hold 18 certifications in 13 years. But let’s not jump too far ahead. I grew to having my own salon suite in Knoxville, and realized that owning a salon was The route that was best for me to take in my career. We bought a house and made the entirety of the basement a salon where I had four Other lash artists and permanent makeup artists working with me. As time passed my husband and I grew apart and got a divorce. I feel like I lost my soul during that time. And I was not able to keep the salon open. I sold everything and moved to the Florida Keys for three years and took a personal hiatus away from life and business. I picked a boring job That was indeed boring and focused on My basic needs. After a year and a half I was called to start working again in the beauty Industry so I started doing house calls to clients all over the Florida Keys (150 mile radius). I was able to make a living, but I knew that if I wanted to grow again, I would need to move back to Knoxville where I feel like I’m able to call home. The day I was driving up to Tennessee from Florida for my next grand move of life I got a call from a previous client who was a salon owner in the area. She was asking if I am willing to buy her salon and take it over. It was the craziest timing in the world! So as of January, I have been the owner of La Petit spa, which has now turned into Asia K spa Studios, that Has private rooms to rent to individual beauty businesses. I am now working on so many projects I am eager to share with the world soon!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth ride for me in any way, shape, or form, but I also take into account that it was a lot easier for me than for most people, having the natural entrepreneurship brain and mindset built in. The biggest obstacle would be my personal relationships at home and finding grounding and separation from my identity as a business owner and my identity as just myself at home. Being able to have work-life harmony is crucial in self-preservation and business preservation in the long term.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Asia Kay Spa Studios LLC & Asia Kay Lashes?
At Asia Kay spa Studios, we have individual treatment rooms that are rentable for other beauty professionals to perform their services. I will soon be hosting small, ongoing education classes, Courses, and workshops for professionals as well. Be on the lookout for a grand opening in September with the start of my new ownership.
I personally provide services through Asia Kay lashes. Specializing in longevity (3-4 weeks) and health of the natural lashes, as well as fully customization of styling to each client that comes in the door. I have everything from brown, black, to rainbow colors and tinsel eyelashes. With my education and expertise, my clients’ natural lashes stay happy and healthy for the duration of the wear (if proper aftercare is taken into account). The majority of my clients prefer to have a natural but glamorous look, which is my favorite to provide! Not all lashes are created equal, and each set is completely different from the other.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The industry has already shifted significantly in the last 5 to 10 years, as the service itself was only born in 1999, and it is already as popular as it is spreading across the world at a rapid speed, like wildfire. We have had many industry changes, mostly with products and supplies evolving to be the best that they could be. Each year, we have a new educational source and product to be able to try out to provide the best service possible to our clients. There are always ever-changing trends of lash styling, and I look forward to having so much fun with that part of my artistry!
