Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Lawson.
Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I decided to pursue pharmacy in high school. I had prayed for guidance on what to do with my life as a career and a pharmacist came to our high school to do a career day and I was intrigued with their job description of sharing medical knowledge with patients without drawing blood or making incisions. I had originally planned on going into medical research and possibly finding a cure for Alzheimer’s but once I got into pharmacy school, I really enjoyed talking to patients and did not like the repetitiveness of the research lab. I dreamed of potentially opening my own pharmacy but it was never a set dream. I mainly just wanted to help people.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were some financial issues that almost prevented me from attending pharmacy school but those were worked out. It did involve a side job at Chuck E. Cheese’s during pharmacy school and a night time music class. My pharmacy career has went pretty smoothly. Even though I didn’t set out to become a pharmacy owner, I now have 2 pharmacies. Many changes have occurred in retail pharmacy with diminishing returns on reimbursement from PBMs and many independent pharmacies have closed their doors. We have been able to remain relevant because of our compounding and nutritional supplements. We really changed our focus after Covid to prevention and wellness. We wanted to keep as many people out of the hospitals as possible.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Village Pharmacy?
We are a compounding pharmacy specializing in individualized medication needs and wellness promotion using nutritional supplements. We treated many patients during Covid with ivermectin and supplements like Vit D, Zinc, Quercetin, and Vit C. When others were turning patients away, we stepped in to try and keep people out of the hospitals. We listen and try to help patients with their individualized needs whether that is medication or supplements.
What matters most to you? Why?
Loving God and loving others matter most to me. It’s a rule I try to follow everyday and encourage my children to do the same. Our mission statement is “We love others by giving the kind of care and service we would want for ourselves or our family.”
