Exploring Life & Business with Kevin Garab of Andrew & Ben’s Lawn Care Llc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Garab.

Hi Kevin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a strong desire to build something of my own, and in 2009 that drive led me to start a lawn-care business. The low startup costs made this decision less daunting for sure. Andrew & Ben’s Lawn Care is named after my two sons, who were right beside me during those early years of growth.

As the business expanded, I began to notice opportunities within the green industry to offer more services, particularly turf treatments. I hit the books, attending UT classes and learning everything I could about the horticultural side of the field. After earning my horticulture, ornamental, and turf license and receiving my business charter, we opened a new chapter for the company. The response was overwhelming, with many of our mowing customers trusting us to take over their full turf-maintenance.

Not long after, I looked for ways to extend our workload further into the season when grass growth slows. My research pointed to irrigation services as the next natural step. We added irrigation winterization, system startups, and repairs to our services, and I went on to obtain state certification in backflow-preventer testing to better serve our customers’ irrigation needs.
At every stage of this journey, my goal has been to grow the company without losing sight of what matters most—providing services that genuinely support the health of our customers’ turf. We take pride in giving homeowners a beautiful lawn they can enjoy throughout the year, without the worry.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Any business owner who claims the journey has been smooth is lying. Starting this business with strong support from family was the easiest stage. In the early years, delivering paper flyers door-to-door and tracking customer accounts in a simple notepad was mostly stress-free.

But as a business grows, so do the hurdles and the difficult decisions. The need to bring in outside talent, invest in marketing, integrate new software—each step adds complexity. And finding people who not only bring skill, but who also share our vision and protect our core values, is far easier said than done.

This is exactly why we remain committed to slow, sustainable growth. Keeping our team aligned, focused, and dedicated to delivering excellent results for our clients will always take priority over rapid expansion with lackluster outcomes.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We’re a Turf Maintenance company so our focus is on everything related to maintaining healthy, beautiful lawns. Our services cover every key area of turf care—including Fertilizer & Weed Control, Aeration & Overseeding, Mowing, and Irrigation Maintenance & Repair—but the way we deliver those services is what truly sets us apart.

Our Fertilizer & Weed Control program is built on a simple belief: every client deserves the same high-quality, attentive service. That’s why we offer a comprehensive service plan—no confusing tiers, no hidden fees, no surprise add-ons.

We take great pride in maintaining a small-business level of personal connection and responsiveness. When you call or text, you talk directly to Tim. When your technician is on the way and you reply to the message, your actual tech answers you. No call centers, no automated loops—just real people who know your property and care about your lawn.
