Exploring Life & Business with Jazmyn Janow of Bright Beginnings Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmyn Janow.

Hi Jazmyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As anyone in the helping professions can relate, I grew up with a servant’s heart and a passion for taking care of others. That began with local and international mission projects, helping communities meet their needs and build social support.

When college came around, I was certain nursing was my calling… until Anatomy and Physiology proved me wrong. That detour led me to discover the field of social work.

As I dove deeper into the coursework, my excitement for the mental health field grew. With a sociology degree in hand, I spent several years on the frontlines of community mental health, helping families navigate systemic challenges and strengthen their relationships. Over time, that excitement evolved into a desire to work one-on-one with clients and dive into the deeper work of psychotherapy.

I began my therapy work in West Knoxville, focusing on children managing anxiety, depression, and ADHD. Seeing these children thrive and grow continued to fill my heart and confirm that I was exactly where I was meant to be.

In 2024, after the birth of my son, I experienced firsthand the struggles new parents face during those postpartum months and the transition from infancy to toddlerhood. The universe seemed to notice, and my practice naturally shifted toward supporting new parents, and parents in general, who are navigating constant change and striving to rediscover themselves.

Every day that I get to sit across from a parent finally able to take their first deep breath of the day feels like a reward. I don’t need awards or framed certificates, because I know how precious that breath of fresh air is for my clients.

In the years ahead, I hope to expand my reach to more families and communities, creating accessible spaces for parents to find support and reconnect with themselves. Helping others rediscover calm and confidence in their roles will always be the heart of my work.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most therapists, my journey hasn’t been without challenges. Early in my career, I experienced the profound loss of a young client that shook our community. That event changed how I viewed both my work and myself. It taught me how essential it is to honor my own humanity while showing up for others, and it deepened my passion for reaching families before crisis becomes tragedy.

I also began my therapy career during a time when the world felt especially heavy. The collective stress, uncertainty, and emotional fatigue many of us carried taught me how to sit with discomfort, both my own and others’, and to model the kind of grounded presence I ask my clients to practice. Supporting clients through struggles I was also facing forced me to grow in authenticity and humility. It reminded me that healing isn’t about having the answers, but about walking beside people as we find them together.

And most recently, motherhood has brought its own lessons. Balancing work and life after having my son has required creativity and grace, pushing me to reimagine what growth looks like in this season. These experiences continue to shape not only the therapist and business owner I am, but the person I’m becoming.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bright Beginnings Therapy?
At Bright Beginnings, I offer therapy for individuals and families, focusing on those navigating parenthood and the constant changes it brings. I also love working with anyone who’s curious about understanding themselves on a deeper level. My goal is to create a space where you can show up exactly as you are; no mask, no façade, no gimmicks. You bring your struggles, and I’ll help you untangle the chaos so you can feel more grounded and confident in your everyday life.

I provide telehealth services to meet you exactly where you are, physically and emotionally. And don’t worry about the pile of laundry on the couch; chances are, I’ve got one too.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’ve been lucky to have incredible support along the way. My parents and my life partner have been my biggest cheerleaders They are always excited for me, always showing up, and often offer the kind of support I didn’t even know I needed.

I also want to recognize my licensure supervisor, Annette Lynch, who has walked beside me through both professional challenges and personal seasons of growth. Her mentorship has been a grounding force in my journey.
