Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarren Odum.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got started in real estate back in 2013 after returning home from the U.S. Air Force, where I served as a Military Police Officer, including a tour in Baghdad, Iraq. When I came back to my hometown, I wasn’t quite sure what was next — until my uncle Larry suggested I look into real estate. That advice ended up changing the entire course of my life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The drive and determination I developed in the military really carried over into my real estate career. There were challenges early on, but giving up was never an option — that mindset is a big part of what’s led to my success over the last 12 years here in Blount County. I love what I do, whether it’s my country or my community. Real estate has allowed me to continue that mission in a new way, helping people find stability, opportunity, and a place to call home.
We’ve been impressed with Jarren Odum at Remax First, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is built on connection and trust. I specialize in residential, commercial, and real estate investing — but more than that, I specialize in helping people through challenges that others might walk away from. Whether it’s guiding a first-time buyer through a tough deal or helping an investor bring a property back to life, I’m proud of my ability to stay determined and find solutions, no matter how difficult things get.
Over the last 12 years, I’ve built my business almost entirely through word of mouth. I haven’t advertised in a decade, yet my phone keeps ringing — and that’s the biggest compliment I could ever receive. It means my clients trust me enough to recommend me to their friends and family, and that kind of loyalty means everything. My brand stands for persistence, integrity, and community — and that’s exactly what I hope readers remember about me.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’ve always believed that luck is when opportunity meets preparation — and that being ready for those moments is what makes them “lucky.” In my experience, success hasn’t been about random good fortune; it’s come from showing up, staying consistent, and being prepared when the right doors opened.
That said, I’ve learned the most from the moments that didn’t go my way. I credit much of my success to my failures — they’ve taught me how not to do something and given me the grit to keep pushing forward. Giving up has never been an option for me. Every challenge I’ve faced has built a stronger foundation for the next opportunity.
