Today we’d like to introduce you to Debi Stafford.
Hi Debi , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I became a family nurse practitioner after my second daughter became disabled. I was disillusioned with the lack of health care and decided to be the change from the inside out. I always dreamed of having a primary care clinic. After graduating with my undergraduate degree I knew I would need to work in a hospital for a time to develop my skills. After I finished my graduate program, I worked for a predominately Medicaid clinic. While I adored my patients, I was disgusted with insurance practices — denying care, being encouraged to see patients more often than necessary to collect more revenues, and the patient as the center of care was missing. Eventually, I was laid off from that practice. Glen my husband and myself took our life savings to open our little practice. It was called Nurse Debi’s Health & Wellness. Eventually, as more joined our practice, we changed it to Stafford Family Care. Our focus is on commonsense delivery of care with functional influence. We want to address root causes to heal the body. But it all started because one little girl became disabled and she didn’t receive the care she deserved.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. Believing in myself, financial struggles, and unseen adversities have been the biggest hurdles along the way. It takes a certain amount of dreaming to begin to paint what becomes the reality. Staying focused on the dream when the negativity and problems arise can be challenging. Providing care in an affordable way to the consumer is extremely challenging, especially with the explosion of inflation during covid.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
It is a direct to consumer primary care clinic. We offer primary care from birth to advanced geriatric. I specialize particularly in autism, PANS/PANDAS, Lyme/associated diseases, bio-identical hormones, thyroid management, and weight loss. I am separate from others because I’m functional without charging a fortune. I’m most proud of being known as “Nurse Debi.” I became well-known during COVID for prescribing medications that helped people, recommending lifestyle changes, and encouraging social connection during covid. My services are available to anyone who want them. We do not over-book and work hard to stay on time with our patient visits.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
When you are called by God for something, be obedient.
