Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Duff.
Breanna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Being a wedding planner was not in my original plans. As I graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, I was determined to continue my education in hopes of being a forensic psychologist. I applied to multiple universities to receive my doctorates degree and was denied. At that point, I was contemplating my career path. I vowed to wait until the following year to apply again. In the meantime, I got a brilliant idea to start my own business.
I started by determining what I did best. I come from a family of very talented people. The main talents in my family are crafting leadership and having an eye for detail. That is when it hit me, why not be a wedding planner? I enrolled with QC Event School to retrieve my certification to become a wedding planner. Mind you, this was in the midst of COVID-19. I graduated with my certification in November of 2020. My first client was a family member which felt like a great start for me.
About mid-January of 2021, I was feeling super discouraged. I had gone two months and had not booked another client. All I could think about was, “Is this really worth it?” and “Why am I even doing this?” At the time, I was working in a career field that fit my bachelor’s degree in human services. My wedding planning business was placed on the back burner.
May of 2021, I decided to get my wedding planning business off the ground. Networking was my best friend at that point. I began to join wedding planning Facebook Pages in Bristol, VA/TN, and surrounding areas. These Facebook pages were a lifesaver! As I made multiple posts about my business, I started gaining clientele interested left and right. As of today, I am fully booked for 2021 and my 2022 calendar is filling very quickly!
I thank myself every single day for believing in myself and not giving up when times are rough. Everyone has to start somewhere in life. It may be rough at first, but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel if you believe in yourself and make it happen!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It was most definitely not a smooth road. Working hard for a particular outcome and not seeing any progress is discouraging.

I am a traveling certified wedding and event planner who specializes in Day of coordination. I own a home-based wedding and event planning business based in beautiful Bristol, Virginia. However, I also travel to KY, SC, NC, WV, TN, GA, and Washington D.C. to make wedding dreams come true!
