Today we’d like to introduce you to Tré King.
Hi Tré, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been drawn to create for as long as I can remember whether that be school art projects, sketching, or writing poems that would later be a foundation for what I’d learn to be songwriting. In high school, I had a math teacher (who also happened to be one of my basketball coaches) that introduced me to the world of music production.
I immediately went home and downloaded FL Studio to my mom’s laptop and made beats every spare moment I had. When it was time for me to go to college, I found a great recording industry program at Middle Tennessee State University and went there. Music was the biggest thing that interested me and if I was going to spend hours a day studying something, I wanted it to be that.
From there, I began writing and recording my own songs, dabbling in videography so I could start to build visuals and a brand around my music. Now, I’m currently living in Los Angeles in full pursuit of making this dream I have a reality… but I never forget where I come from.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
About 3 months before moving to Los Angeles my laptop, which at the time had hundreds of beats and tons of unreleased music on it crashed… I was in the midst of moving across the country away from everything I knew and the one thing that I was leaning on to catapult me into this unfamiliar land was gone.
That really shook me. Of course, every journey has struggles and I’ve learned over the years to fully embrace them as a part of it. I think growing up raised by a single mother has many struggles of its own that a lot of people can relate to, and I give so much credit to my mom.
She not only encouraged & pushed me to always go after what I love, but she also showed me what real strength and perseverance look like in the face of adversity.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Something I think sets me apart from a lot of other artists is the fact that I’m very hands-on with every aspect of my music.
When I first started I didn’t really have a team around me to where I could just delegate the things I needed, so by default I had to learn these myself. I produce, record, and mix everything myself.
I also have a strong understanding of photos & videography, and therefore, what I want my visuals to look like.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
This may be a cliché answer but I define my success as if I’m simply able to make a living doing what I love and provide for the people around me.
I’d also define it by knowing that the music & art I create will live forever, having a lasting impact on people in a positive way.
