Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Gray.
Morgan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My photography journey truly began in my early childhood. My mom always placed a high value on documenting moments that otherwise might be forgotten, whether that be through writing it down, or home videos, but most of the time it was photographs. There are oodles of scrapbooks, boxes of photographs, and even some film yet to be developed documenting my upbringing and serving as the embers that sparked the flame that ignited my passion for photography.
When I was in elementary school, mom let me enter into a local photo contest for children and I won second place. The judges said I had a “unique perspective” and I still have that photograph of a tree framed somewhere. From there my mom taught me some skills with her camera throughout my life and later, with thousands of pictures on my camera roll, my husband gifted me a camera for Christmas in 2020 and told me he thought I had real talent and I should use it. Thus, began my professional photography journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Photography for me started out as a side gig and not being able to invest in it full time was definitely an obstacle in building my client base up but since the birth of my daughter last year, I no longer have a “day job” so I’m able to give my business my full attention which has definitely helped grow my client base.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have done just about all types of photography from studio newborns to weddings but I specialize in “Slow-Living” sessions, which are more about capturing the moment you’re living in rather than a ‘picture perfect’ pose. These sessions are unique to the each client and are really focused on capturing their essence.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I’ve learned that if you put God first in everything, He will always be faithful and clear communication with clients is the key to being a successful photographer in this industry.
