Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlo White.
Hi Marlo, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started with a dream: to spend every day doing exactly what I love. When I moved to Chattanooga in 2019, I landed in the logistics field—a world filled with uncertainty and constant downsizing. After working at three different logistics companies, I realized it was time to get ahead of the curve and plant a seed of my own, something I could nurture and grow on my terms.
Music has always been at the center of my life. As a lifelong fan and former DJ who listens to music around the clock, it only made sense that my next chapter would revolve around it. That’s when my wife and I began searching for a space in Chattanooga. By chance, we met Duffy, the owner of Dancing Goat Tattoo, who was also looking for a partner to share space with. The timing couldn’t have been better. After a few weeks of conversations, we decided to team up and create something new for Chattanooga.
From there, it was a whirlwind. In just 30 days, I gathered vinyl, secured furniture, handled licensing, launched advertising, and opened the doors to my record store—a dream finally taking shape.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can’t say everything’s been smooth—but honestly, I’m just not the kind of person who stresses. The hustle and bustle of running a small business is the part I enjoy most.
Running to the courthouse for licenses, bouncing around town getting things done, organizing, doing payroll, making schedules, covering last-minute call-ins, sending emails, passing out flyers… (laughing) that’s the stuff I actually love doing.
I know the slow months might prove to be the rough part—but I’m ready for it. At the end of the day, I’m still having the time of my life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
This is my first business venture, but leadership and management have been the core of my career. I’ve spent years motivating and guiding teams, helping people reach their potential and keeping operations running smoothly.
What sets me apart is my ability to adapt and keep moving forward. I expect the unexpected, so I’m rarely caught off guard. That resilience has carried me through challenges and now fuels me as a business owner.
I’m most proud of creating something from the ground up—a space that reflects my love for music and community—and doing it in a way that stays true to who I am.
Any big plans?
I do have future plans for Dallos Vinyl Love. While I’d rather not share all the details just yet, I can say that expansion is definitely on the horizon—and it’s going to bring a fresh, one-of-a-kind experience to Chattanooga.
