Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Story.
Hi Kate, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I finished my yoga teacher certification back in December of 2021, I had considered the idea of opening a yoga studio in Sevier County. The more I thought about it though, I realized that I wasn’t very jazzed about the investment and risk involved in opening a brick-and-mortar studio. I was having drinks with my husband on a rooftop bar one night, and we met the cutest young couple. They were there discussing their wedding plans. When they asked what I did for a living, she said, “Oh wow! That’s so cool! I want to do yoga on my wedding day when we get married in Gatlinburg!” From there, the idea was born. I worked on a logo, purchased branded mats and blocks, set up a website and hoped this idea of a “mobile” yoga studio would work.
Slowly but surely, one booking turned into another and then another and my proof of concept was established. My first official booking was back in August of 2022, and the business has steadily grown since then. Even though I never ended up doing a wedding day yoga session for the girl from the rooftop bar, I credit my meeting with her for giving me the idea and courage to go for it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This business has been a blast. It has helped me to grow and learn in ways I had never expected. I think the biggest struggle for me has been with the admin side of things. I have tried various booking platforms, project planning platforms, communication processes, etc. and have really had to be diligent and patient as I have slowly settled on the plans and processes that work best for me.
I have always been more of a visionary, dreamer, and creative (Enneagram 4), so making myself sit down and plan the back end of my business has been a really good growth edge for me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I consider myself an “artist/creative” and my “medium” is curating unique experiences for my clients. I specialize in bachelorette yoga, girls’ getaway yoga, family reunions, and corporate events. Every group is different with different needs and expectations. I take time to learn about my client group prior to the session. If it’s a bachelorette session, I offer a questionnaire that gives the bride an opportunity to share a little more about her engagement story, wedding plans, history of the friendships with her bridesmaids, etc. I also get ideas for creating a custom playlist for our session. This helps every session to be unique and specialized.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think the quality that has helped the most with my success is a true passion for a love of what I am offering. That passion has inspired confidence in my brand.
