Daily Inspiration: Meet Chase Lewis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chase Lewis

Hi Chase, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I met almost everyone in the band at a music festival in West Virginia that we were all playing at. A local band “Weeping Cosmonaut” asked Gavin Burch, Andrew Kelly, and I to fill in for some of their members. We all separately agreed and met for the first time at a band practice the day before the festival. We all got along really well so we decided all hop in my truck and drive 7 hours up to the festival. We played, had a great time and decided to keep playing together after that. Shortly after I threw a Halloween party at my house and that was our first unofficial show. It quickly came to a stop because the cops showed up almost immediately. So we said screw the neighbors and did it all over again the next weekend. Flash forward almost 2 years and we’re still jammin!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been very difficult road. We’ve all had to learn to navigate this wild and fast paced world of music. We have had to cycle through some members and re evaluate what we want this to be a couple times over.

I “chase Lewis” was born with rheumatoid arthritis in all of my joints and there are some days where I just can’t even pick up a guitar because my hands are so swollen and sore. And there was a point last year in our first peak where I had to consider stepping away from the scene because I couldn’t find a medication that would effectively treat my condition, and was in so much pain every single day.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve bounced around a lot trying different things waiting for something to stick. I tried my hand in sales, bartending, construction… just about everything you can do without a college degree. Right now I’m actually doing electrical work on boats, pays not too bad and I get time off for gigs and practice which is obviously the main priority at the moment.

Gavin works at a marina as a laborer which I know he’s pretty Into.

Andrew is a cook at tomato head so if you go there and your food tastes like it was made with love. That’s definitely the bass man thumpin his was through these orders.

And Ben, our drummer, works at academy sports in the warehouse.

The Income we make from Music really helps us all out in our day to day life’s as well as helps us Invest into the music more.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Love love love the people and scene we have seen grow and develop in front of our eyes. Not to mention the mountains and lakes being so close. We are all big outdoors people.

I wish there were more well establish businesses in the music Industry. Labels, promoters, booking agents, good managers. Things that could help the artists make a living doing what they do best. Unfortunately it feels like we live in a place That focuses more on collecting your pee to check it for “illegal” plants and than helping the arts grow.
