Daily Inspiration: Meet Ben Bostick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Bostick.

Hi Ben, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After getting kicked out of the Naval Academy Prep School, in 2010 I go into a depression and had no idea. This continued at Campbellsville University in 2011 and I quit the team when my first season didn’t go as planned. Instead of going home to Birmingham, AL and facing the music, I decided to stay in Lexington, KY and take a break. That break turned into 8 years (2012-2020) of a whirlwind. It started with just drinking and snowballed from there. I couldn’t and wouldn’t do anything without alcohol or drugs. I worked in bars and hung out in bars. A big cycle of nothing.

FF to 2020. During quarantine isolation lead me to a lot of self reflection. I missed my siblings birthdays, sporting events, and just having a great relationship due to my alcoholism. The Holy Spirit said it was time for a change! I moved to Knoxville in May of 2020 to help my buddy start a moving company. Instead of finding a bar in my spare time, I started going back to the gym. I quickly fell back in love with strength training. I studied and got my personal training certification when I had down time. Come October 2022, I got let go at the moving company. I had 2 choices: search for a job or take a leap of faith and start my Stank Fitness. Frankies Body Shop gave me the opportunity to start training clients and even helped me find side work until I built my client list. I’ve been trying to learn and bring as much value as I can to each client.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Figuring out the business side of things was very difficult. Training is connecting with people and explaining movements, which came pretty naturally. But I never finished school so I felt really silly when it came to the business side of things.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a personal trainer and specialize in strength training. I focus on doing movements correctly and connecting with the muscle the movement is targeting. Doing thing correctly leaves less room for error and a lot more room for growth.

I’m known for being encouraging. I love bringing the best out of people.

I’m most proud that I haven’t let my business take away from my family. It’s a blessing to have the flexibility to be able to get home right around when schools out.

Listening and paying attention to detail set me apart. The more I listen, the better I can understand how my clients need to be coached.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was extremely active. I have 4 brothers and sisters and we played sports all year round. Vacations were all-star tournaments haha. I would say I was a goofy child but very determined to be great at whatever I was doing. Basketball, Baseball, Football were my 3. I didn’t have many other interests besides sports being honest. I loved it. The preparation, playing in the game, the feeling in clutch moments. Ain’t nothing better.
