Conversations with Keenan Daniels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keenan Daniels.

Hi Keenan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My DJ journey started in 2011. Christian hip-hop music was the route for me because I wasn’t a Christian hip-hop DJ in my city. Then I understood why most churches were unwilling to pay for my services. I knew I wanted to play clean music but I had to find a way to get paid at the same time.

That’s when someone pointed me in the direction of working weddings. I worked at three weddings in 2012. Stayed consistent and found a way to market myself as an entertainer first DJ second. When I made that slight adjustment business took off. I became full-time in 2015 and I haven’t looked back.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Like most performers are entertainers you focus on the show. What I had to learn was how to run a company. I didn’t see what I was doing as a business but keeping up with bookkeeping, business insurance, planning and scheduling of clients, and constantly working on your brand is a lot of work for a one-man show. Nevertheless, I would say it’s been a pretty smooth Road.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a host/ entertainer/Dj that specializes in family-friendly and corporate events that require clean and professional music. I’m most known for the energy and attention to detail I give all my clients.

The thing that I’m the proudest of is the fact that I work 85 to 90 weddings a year and I give all clients the same amount of energy and professionalism consistently. What’s set me apart is my ability to use my microphone and host wedding receptions that’s the missing element among most guys in my field is my ability to be comfortable with a microphone in my hand.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Alexis Daniels is my number one cheerleader she’s my wife and the mother of my three beautiful children. Her belief in me is what catapulted me to where I am today. She’s constantly helping me when it comes to business plans and any ideas that I have to make the business grow.

What is her love and support I would still be working a 9 to 5:00 job. Alan Ledford was my art teacher from 6th grade through 12th grade. A lot of what I do is mimicked by things I saw him do growing up. His ability to make jokes and witty humor are things I’ve incorporated into my business.

He also believed in me in times when I didn’t want to look in the mirror and because of that, I appreciate him I’ll always thank him for his leadership and guidance. My Pastor Dr. RJ McCowan is my mentor without this man I would not know how to handle people. In addition to teaching me biblical principles, he’s also taught me how to be a loving husband good father, and a strategic businessman.
