Conversations with Cayla Hodge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cayla Hodge.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I entered the feild of esthetics not sure at first if this was what I wanted to do. I was in my mid 20s. I felt behind in life seeing my peers have careers they loved. I had delt with body image issues and depression and I knew I wanted to make a change not only in my life but in others. What better way to empower others to feel good in their own skin then to know all about skin health.
My first day of school I was so nervous. We immediately jump into the curriculum hands on, learning how to do facails. The moment I had learned my first facail I knew I found my calling. I retained the information with ease and was a straight A student. Receiving compliments for the work I did, hearing how happy and relaxed they were filled my heart with peace. It wasn’t just joy. It was almost like a relieving feeling to know i could be someone’s sanctuary to find peace and love within themselves. When I became licensed I knew my goal would be to have my own business to be able to truly make the oasis I imagined in my head. Now I offer all kinds of services at my suite. I also do airbrush bridal make-up. I love making people feel and look beautiful on their special day. I even went back to the school I graduated from to teach as a Junior instructor. Now I get to also teach other estheticians how to take care of skin and help people feel good.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was definitely not a smooth road. I had moved to Tennessee from Florida. I didn’t really know alot of people and my only family was 3 hours away. So I had to truly rely on strangers to trust me with their skin in order to build clientele. The slow start in the beginning can definitely be discouraging. I had a great community of other estheticians who helped guide me. I was never tech savvy or into social media so learning how to edit videos and advertise online was also a bit of a struggle. I don’t know if id call it a struggle but perfecting my craft definitely took lots of practice.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So im an esthetician. I do customized facials, Chemical peels, dermaplaning, I do waxing on the legs, brows, bikini lines and almost anywhere else. I also offer brow and lash tints, brow lamination, and lash lifts. As well as I do lymphatic drainage and SRT (stress relieving treatment). I am probably most known for my air brush make up and my back facials. I am very proud of my make-up skills I had been doing make up since before discovering esthetics. What sets me apart from others would be the fact that I do airbrush make-up for all the steps. Some other MUAs who offer airbrush only use that tool for the foundation. I use airbrush make up for the primer, foundation, eyeshadow, contour, blush, and highlight. Ensuring natural long lasting result. I have also been complimented greatly for my relaxing techniques in the back facial. I always try to set myself apart from others by having an environment designed to be accommodating to each individual. If they want relaxing calmness, no worries. If you need to vent and listen to your favorite artist this a safe place where nothing leaves this room

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I need to firstly give credit to my parents. I couldn’t have done any of this without their support. I truly don’t deserve them. They always encouraged me anytime I felt discouraged. They believed in me and push me to strive for my goals. Also Brianna Kaylece. She is who I rent my suite from. She is the proud owner of Asia Kay Spa Studios where im located. She doesn’t look at other estheticians as a competition but as a team member. She is always helping me advertise and invites me to networking events. Once a month she helps bring all of the business owners in her studio together to help each other advertise, give advice, and learn new skills. Lastly my very supportive partner. He has helped so much handing out cards and flyers we joke that he is my marketing and advertising division.
