Conversations with Alex Shelton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Shelton

Hi Alex, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2013 with the intent to become a TV reporter. After time at a local TV station as an Associate Producer, I ventured outside that industry and found my way into the world of destination marketing, working to promote the City of Gatlinburg. After several years in the marketing industry, my gained experience and talents led me to start my own business, Volunteer Visions Photography.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Hard work is never easy, but it’s always rewarding. It takes a conscious decision every day to wake up and give everything you have. I’m committed to the quality of work I produce for my clients, and I like to think they would tell you the same thing. At the end of the day, I know God has all control, and I work for His will in my life to the best of my ability.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m owner and operator of Volunteer Visions Photography. As the sole proprietor, I can ensure the quality of work in all scenarios, which is a huge plus for my clients. I like to say, “I can do anything that involves a camera.” I do photography of all kinds, but a big part of that is photography, videography and drone piloting for real estate professionals. In addition to the real estate industry, I do branding photography and videography for medium sized companies, as well as portrait work for individuals and families. I take a lot of pride in my client relationships. I genuinely care about them, and with that care comes a level of responsibility I feel for the work I produce.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I was raised to understand the importance of applying hard work to your day-to-day, even after you’ve received higher education, and I’ve allowed that to drive my approach to how I serve my clients. Continue to show up. Continue to work hard. Continue to pray when you don’t know what your next move should be, and remember to thank God for your blessings. Don’t allow yourself to be devalued based on your age, but also don’t believe you’re entitled to too much too soon. Don’t pigeon hole yourself into who you think you should be from a career perspective.
