Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Lambert.
Hi Sydney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was a first-generation college student, working 3 jobs to finance my education. I started my photography business during my first year of college to help individuals that couldn’t afford family, graduation, newborn, or wedding photos.
My parents were the biggest cheerleaders as I started this journey. Even though I wasn’t a “pro”, my goal was simply to help others. By my second year of college, I began contract work for marketing in addition to photography and my other 3 part-time jobs.
I saw the need for small business marketing and ran to help the local guys succeed and grow in a digital world. From there, my best friend and now husband became my second shooter in my photography business. We grew to an average of 30 weddings per year, and have met hundreds of people that we now consider family.
I continue to do contracting work and fully believe in the power of marketing to touch people’s lives, give them a reason to be creative, confident, or explore their goals! During the pandemic, I started a boutique for women of all sizes to encourage women to feel beautiful and confident – something that I’ve always struggled with myself. My goal is to continue to touch people’s lives and make a difference in the world by using the small business I own.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the biggest thing I’ve learned in life, is if you don’t take the chances you want to, you’ll never have the chance to fail.
The struggles I’ve faced are as small as financial, to losing all of my clients by moving, being my own biggest critic, or simply not doing the right thing because I jumped the gun thinking I knew what was best. The worst struggle to conquer was thinking people had to believe in me in order to succeed.
They didn’t believe in the youngster that was aggressive and driven. But eventually, you learn that the approval of others isn’t what you’re seeking as an entrepreneur, but to see the seeds you plant grow and prosper.
We’ve been impressed with THE SOUTHERN LABEL, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Southern Label is the parent company for my three brands: Adventure with the Lamberts, Honey Hives Boutique, and The Southern Label Marketing. My photography company is Adventure with the Lamberts where my husband and I travel to capture the most beautiful moments that people will cherish forever.
We specialize in elopements, weddings, and making new best friends during every photoshoot. We love being able to watch your family grow from your high school graduations, getting engaged, married, pregnancy announcements, seeing the joy on your face at the gender reveals, and even the birth stories. I guess I would consider the job to be a documenter. It’s super fun to do your job with your best friend, too – highly recommend it.
Honey Hives Boutique is an online and in-store women’s boutique that specializes in carrying gorgeous clothes in XS-3XL. What started as a pandemic, online store, became a storefront at Merc 828 in Asheville, NC, and 865 in Knoxville, TN. I felt so uncomfortable going shopping and feeling horrible when clothes were missized and I’d have to get 3 sizes larger, or the clothes would fall apart after the first wash.
So, as a result, Honey Hives Boutique was created. Finally, The Southern Label is my small business marketing firm that focuses on promoting small businesses, managing their social media, updating their websites or creating a new ones, updating photography aspects, increasing SEO, and more. I love the ability to take their digital world to the next level and see their business blossom.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I love what I do. The fun part of being an entrepreneur, is the 4 AM ideas, long car ride pitches to my family, and running analytics for ideas as if I’m the wealthiest person out there and can throw money at the “million-dollar ideas”.
But, that’s when you know you’re happy. When you do what you love, and are passionate about it, the reasons to keep creating and growing are there.
