Community Highlights: Meet Robin Roggeman of Elite Appraisal Group, Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Roggeman

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a transplant from coastal NC to Tennessee 20 years ago, I started my career in nursing which quickly transitioned into healthcare sales and sales leadership. The further up the corporate ladder I climbed the further away from the patients I got. My true passion was the aging population and I found it very difficult to reconcile the business part of healthcare with the patient care piece. I started to grow disenchanted. My husband, Brent, had been an appraiser for many years and was at the point in his career where he was ready to go out on his own. Together we made the decision to start Elite Appraisal Group, Inc. in 2017 with the intention of Brent handling the appraisal side of things and daily operations and I would handle the business development, and accounting aspect while maintaining my fulltime corporate position. We decided that I would be majority owner and president because we both recognized the importance of a female lead and minority owned business. Coming from healthcare, I wanted to be better prepared and better versed in the real estate arena so I got my affiliate broker license. Once Covid hit, the opportunity arrived from me to exit healthcare and join the appraisal firm full time with Brent. Both coming from a family of entrepreneurs it made a lot of sense for us. Brent is a UT Alum with a degree in communications while I have a degree in marketing from Tusculum so we both use our strengths to continue to serve our clients and drive the growth of our business within our community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think owning your own company is ever a smooth road. Taking the leap and leaving my job was scary but nothing good comes without risk and it was well worth. The housing market fluctuation effects us and has lead to a few bumpier roads. I also think if you don’t prioritize work life balance the road can be a bumpy one, too. Some might consider working with your significant other a challenge and some days it can be but overall, I consider it one of the things I am most thankful to be able to do.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We would like to be considered your home town home appraiser. We are a full-service residential real estate appraisal and consulting firm serving the Greater Knoxville area and surrounding counties of Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Loudon, Sevier, and Union. Along with Conventional, FHA, VA, and Rural Development appraisals, we also do personal appraisals for land, estates, divorce settlements, portfolio management, PMI and tax reconsideration/disputes and prelisting value determination.

We pride ourselves in our fair pricing, extensive service area, and 5 day turn around time. Brent is Knoxville born and raised and has a strong understanding of this market. On top of being a Certified Residential Appraiser, he also carries his real estate license. Having appraisers as your realtors is definitely more bang for your buck!

It is important to know that as much as we enjoy giving back to our community, we also enjoy serving as a resource to answer any of your real estate or appraisal questions and meet your needs. We have a blog on our website and do regular video series on our social media to help familiarize folks with the appraisal process.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
It makes me happy to do something I love with someone I love. My family makes me happy. Our daughter graduated UT in May and it makes me happy to see her happy and using her wings- she has a business of her own. Our two labs- Reggie and Homer, make me very happy (and hairy). We also have chickens and bees that make me happy, too. Spending time at home cooking or gardening allows me to feel grounded and brings me joy, as does traveling. It honestly doesn’t take much to make me happy. I am very grateful for this life.
