Community Highlights: Meet Misty Jarnigan of Krazzy Cakes & Catering

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Jarnigan.

Hi Misty, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Misty Jarnigan, and I am the owner, artist, and operator of Krazzy Cakes and Catering, located in the heart of East Tennessee. My love for cooking began as a little girl, making biscuits and popping popcorn with my grandmother, and spending summers at the local 4H camp and hospital where my mom worked as a cook. Cooking and baking quickly became my passion. One day, I took a Wilton cake course because of my love for crafts, and it opened Pandora’s box. I started making cakes for friends and family in 2016, and their encouragement led me to pursue it professionally. In 2019, I decided to add catering to my services alongside my cakes. After my father passed away that year, I dove headfirst into everything cake and catering-related to keep myself occupied. Over time, with leaps of faith and hard work, my family and I have perfected our recipes and expanded our catering offerings to cover events ranging from intimate gatherings to grand celebrations.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been smooth… Although I took cake decorating classes, teaching myself has greatly expanded my knowledge and shaped me into the artist I am today. I work full-time as a surgical nurse, am a mother to two boys, a wife, and a caregiver for my mother. On top of that, I spend countless hours on cakes and catering, making for a challenging but rewarding lifestyle.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a family-owned, home-based business located in Greeneville, TN. We offer full-service catering with a southern comfort menu, using local ingredients whenever possible. Our cakes are baked fresh to order and never frozen. We aim to make your special day or event stress-free and delicious. From appetizers and grazing tables to buffet-style meals, we’ve got you covered. Plus, our dessert menu pairs perfectly with any meal. We pride ourselves on providing the best customer service and lending a helping hand wherever needed. We’re just local folks with southern charm who love cooking for you.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with the ability to bake, cook, and decorate cakes. My dad who always enjoyed watching me decorate cakes and often offered words of encouragement. My mom shared her cooking knowledge and let me use her kitchen. My husband and two sons have been incredibly supportive and patient as I spent countless hours in my shop. I’m so grateful to my family and friends for their love and support over the years, especially my amazing sisters, who are my ride or die. A special thanks to my 89-year-old aunt, who makes the best pie crusts. To my wonderful customers, I am deeply thankful and honored to be part of your special events.
