Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Wang.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Jessica Wang (the brand), was born out of a love for jewelry, design, and a passion for creating & sharing. Back in 2017, I started to play with my own jewelry designs, I started to sketch, talk with factories and put a plan together to bring this idea to life.
Over the next two years, I also started to work within the industry supporting other jewelry brands with design and sourcing and I learned the intricacies of how the industry works. Then 2020 happened… I won’t say any more. Thankfully during this time, I reconnected with my co-founders Sean & Malcolm who I have known for many years and are experts in brand and marketing.
We then embarked on a 3-month exploration of what we wanted to create with Jessica Wang and what we wanted to represent and bring to our local Knoxville community. This culminated in the brand, product catalog, and visual identity you see today.
Since launching as Jessica Wang in March 2022 we have attended numerous markets including with the lovely people at Hey Bear cafe, launched our online store www.jessicawang.co, and opened our very own Kiosk in West Town Mall where we are showcasing everything we have created.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Touchwood we are doing ok and everything seems to have gone relatively smoothly so far however we have run into our fair share of startup challenges that I’m sure most are familiar with. The first that comes to mind is communication.
I’m full-time in Knoxville while Malcolm’s based in London for part of the year and Sean in Vancouver so it’s been a challenge doing everything virtually. Now that 2020 has passed (thankfully), I think this is quite normal and everyone is used to jumping on a Google Meeting or doing everything through Slack and Google Drive! The next has to be our lack of experience with certain parts of running an offline/online business.
I feel like no matter how much you research and plan when you actually execute a task (i.e. order custom packaging without ever seeing a sample) something is bound to go wrong (if you’re wondering, 70% of the packaging was wrong and some of it needed to be reprinted).
We won’t let small issues like these stop us from succeeding. These bumps in the road are definitely part of the process and dare I say part of the fun.

The Jessica Wang you see today launched in March 2022 and is an independent jewelry brand located in Knoxville, Tennessee.
