Community Highlights: Meet Jess Curtis of J-Bird Digital Designs DBA J-Bird

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Curtis.

Hi Jess, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
J-Bird Digital Designs was born out of a desire to help small businesses, makers, and entrepreneurs show up confidently online—without the overwhelm.

After working in the corporate world of marketing and design, I realized I was craving something more personal, more collaborative, and more human. I had watched so many talented people—artists, service providers, local shops—struggle to navigate the digital side of their business, and I knew I could help. So I left my full-time job, took a leap of faith, and built J-Bird to offer strategic, accessible, and creative digital support.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road—but every bump has been a valuable learning opportunity.

One of the biggest challenges in the early days was time management. Like many small business owners, I wore all the hats—and learning how to prioritize, set boundaries, and protect my creative energy took time. I’ve since developed systems that help me plan positively and work with intention rather than urgency.

Another key learning curve was contract clarity. As I gained more experience, I realized the importance of having a contract that not only protects me, but also supports and sets clear expectations for my clients. It’s a constant evolution, but those lessons have shaped how I do business now—with more structure, confidence, and transparency.

The growing pains were real, but they’ve made J-Bird stronger—and more sustainable.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about J-Bird Digital Designs DBA J-Bird?
J-Bird specializes in custom websites, eCommerce, and strategic consultation—all with a collaborative approach that puts people first.

What sets us apart is our willingness to evolve. We’re not here to put clients—or ourselves—in a box. Instead, we build digital assets that grow with you. That might mean launching in phases to match your bandwidth or budget, turning creative chaos into a clear strategy, or simply having honest conversations to make sure the work reflects who you are and where you’re going.

One of my favorite things about J-Bird is how much it has grown alongside me. The brand has become a platform not just for client work, but for collaborations with artists and creatives—and those partnerships show up in everything from custom illustrations to thoughtfully referring out work that’s outside our specialty. There’s real strength in knowing what you don’t do—and being able to recommend someone who does. We don’t just build websites—we build community through creativity.

How do you define success?
Success, to me, is standing in your own integrity. It’s showing up for others the way you want to be shown up for—and growing in a way that honors who you are at every step.

It’s not just about achievements or income—it’s about alignment. Waking up and loving what you do. Building something you’re proud of. And receiving testimonials that don’t just validate your work, but fuel your passion to keep going.

Success is knowing you stayed true to yourself while making a difference for others.
