Community Highlights: Meet Amanda Summers of Summers Psych LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Summers.

Hi Amanda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From Dream to Healing Haven

In September 2019, after marrying my husband, I moved from Florida to Tennessee. After many years of working in trauma through an agency, I carried with me a heartfelt dream – to create a private practice where people could find hope and healing in a deeply personal way. That dream came to life in Knoxville, where I opened a small office and began seeing patients.

When the world shifted with the pandemic, everything changed. Fear, uncertainty, and a collective sense of trauma swept through our communities. I adapted by offering both in-office and telehealth sessions, and my practice quickly filled. The need for support was immense, and before long, there was a waiting list.

In 2020, I expanded to a second location in Lenoir City, just west of Knoxville, but this was no ordinary office. Nestled on a peaceful farm, if offered something different – a sanctuary. Surrounded by open fields, animals, and the gentle beauty of nature, the farm became a place where many could take a deep breath again. For some, therapy meant walking the grounds, sitting by the pond or in the gazebo, or petting the animals in the small petting zoo. It was a place where healing could happen beyond four walls.

As a trauma survivor myself, having experienced various forms of abuse in my earlier years, my heart has always been drawn to those who are hurting. I began studying neuroscience and the effects trauma has on the brain and body in 2010 and became certified in 2017. Throughout my work, I’ve witnessed the heavy weight people carry after abuse, domestic violence, tragedy, loss, and the lingering effect of the pandemic. Anxiety and depression grew for so many, and I knew I wanted to offer something different – a space where people could reconnect with peace, with nature, and with God.

My relationship with God is at the heart of everything I do. I see His beauty in the farm and feel called to share both that beauty and the love of Christ with others. Whether it’s sitting in quiet reflection, sharing a meaningful conversation by the water, or simple enjoying the company of animals. I believe healing can happen in unexpected, grace-filled places.

Looking back, I see how each step – from Florida to Tennessee, from office walls to open fields – has been guided with purpose. My prayer is that this practice remains a refuse, reflecting God’s love and the beauty of His creation, and that everyone who steps onto the farm feels both seen and embraced in their journey towards healing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For me, it was a smooth road. It was though it was meant to be. I only had a few bumps along the way getting on insurance panels but that soon panned out.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is a private practice. I closed my office in central Knoxville in order to focus on my office just west of Knoxville in Lenoir City. I specialize in trauma as well as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and mood disorders. I believe what sets me apart from others is the setup of my location which I explained in the part about my story. I am more proud of the property and scenery as well as my education and certifications. I am certified in Trauma, TF-CBT, EMDR, DBT, and Telehealth.
