Check Out Erin Morrison’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Morrison.

Hi Erin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My photography journey started in 2011 with a camera hidden in a mop box.

My husband gave it to me as a gift, and I had no idea that one small surprise would completely change the direction of my life. I had always loved being creative, but that camera was the spark. I started photographing anything I could, and bribed my friends and family to take their photos.

My first wedding happened in 2013 for a friend. That experience lit a fire in me. Something about the chaos, the emotion, and the intimacy of a wedding day just clicked. I realized this was where I was supposed to be.

Since then, I’ve built a full-time business. I photograph family sessions, weddings, elopements, and engagements in Knoxville and the Great Smoky Mountains. I focus on capturing real, unfiltered moments for all kinds of couples. Just recently, I started something new — a wedding podcast called Aisle Be Honest (https://aislebehonestpod.com), where Brittany Sidwell and I talk about the real behind-the-scenes of the wedding industry.

It all started with a mop box, but what keeps me going is the people and the stories I get to preserve.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most small business owners, I’ve had to navigate plenty of bumps, especially over the last few years.

COVID turned the entire wedding industry upside down. In weeks, my calendar went from certain to uncertain. Couples were postponing or reworking their plans entirely, and there was much to pivot. It was emotionally exhausting and financially stressful. But it also forced me to adapt, get creative, and examine what kind of business I wanted to run.

Now, in 2025, we are dealing with a whole different challenge. The economy is tough, people are watching every dollar, and that absolutely trickles down to the wedding world. I’m seeing couples scale back and a general sense of financial anxiety across many vendor platforms. It’s not easy and requires a lot of flexibility, empathy, and honest conversations with wedding vendors and couples alike.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a family, wedding, elopement, and engagement photographer based in Knoxville, Tennessee. I specialize in capturing honest images for couples who want to feel seen and celebrated. I photograph everything from big traditional weddings to backyard elopements to cozy family sessions, but I’m probably best known for my work in the Great Smoky Mountains. It’s one of my favorite places in the world, and I’m honored to live at its Foothills.

My editing style is earthy and true to life. My approach behind the camera is relaxed but intentional. I guide when I need to, but I let the day unfold naturally so couples can actually experience their wedding without feeling like they are being posed every second.

I’m especially proud of the trust people place in me, including my LGBTQ+ couples who are looking for a safe and affirming space. I’m also proud of how my business has grown beyond photography, like starting Aisle Be Honest Podcast (https://aislebehonestpod.com). In this podcast, I talk candidly about the wedding planning process and help couples plan with real information instead of pressure and perfection.
