Today we’d like to introduce you to Wasted Major.
Wasted Major, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Four of us were friends for several years. We always talked about starting a band but didn’t seriously pursue it for a long time. Two of us wrote a song together and decided we really wanted to find a drummer and see how it sounded with a full band.
We put the word out that we were looking for a drummer and within a few days we had found our match. Our drummer had played with another guitarist and vocalist who he said was great, so we invited him to join us. That formed the six members there are today.
We were lucky enough to get offered a show within two months of forming. To our surprise, we showed up at a packed venue five hours before we were going to play. By the time we took the stage, the venue was past capacity and we couldn’t believe it.
We played such a fun show, and from then on we started getting offers to play around Knoxville and then all around the southeast.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As every business and organization, COVID was a major obstacle. Putting a band together while people aren’t allowed to come to listen was definitely a challenge.
However, the silver lining was that it made us focus on practicing and writing music before we got the opportunity to play in front of an audience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Thanks to having six members who all contribute toward songwriting and three singers that lead with distinctly different sounds, we have a wide spectrum of songs.
Our primary focus is on creating original music and we have a real range of abilities that we pull from.
We write songs that edge into a broad range of genres. However, the one thing we keep coming back to is that we are definitely a rock band.
What matters most to you? Why?
One thing that we all agree on is that music should be entertaining and communicative. Some of our songs tell a story while others communicate an emotion.
Some are meant to evoke a deeper meaning while some are meant for dancing and singing along. Like any form of art or entertainment, at a minimum, they should all give the listener a chance to step away from the purely physical world and experience something within themselves that they otherwise wouldn’t.
Every time our band gets together to play we each experience joy and excitement in ways that we didn’t know prior. We love what we do and it brings us a lot of happiness. We hope that others can experience some of that when they see and listen to us play together.
