Hi Malaya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When my husband and I met, I knew we were going to end up running a farm, as we both love and have a strong passion for animals. A few short years later, Depew Family Farm was in the works! We started out selling farm fresh eggs and hatching eggs from a verity of different chicken breeds. We have always raised goats on our farm as well, but it wasn’t until this past year we decided to take a drastic leap and try to make use out of all the goat milk that our goats were producing. I remember seeing a video of how natural goat milk soap was made and how amazing it was for your skin. I was so intrigued because not only would I be able to make natural skin loving goat milk soap, but I would also be able to eliminate all the harmful chemicals id find in products I was buying from the store. After months of research, I finally felt confident enough to make my first batch of soap. I immediately feel in love with the process of make natural skincare and the rest is history! We currently offer natural soaps, lotions, creams, laundry detergent, and lip balms. We plan to continue to add more products to our list as time goes on. After many restless nights trying to balance working a full-time job, coming home and making products, along with being a mother to a sweet baby girl, the results our customers have had since switching to our natural skincare make everything so worth it!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When farming and running a business, and any business at that, you will always have bumps in the road. There has been many trials and error when making our products and some failed batches where thing just didn’t turn out how they were supposed to, but we never let any struggles we encounter discourage us, instead we view them as a learning curve and look ahead on what we can do different in the future. This is not just a business to us. This is our life; our passion and we love every minute of it!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Depew Family Farm where we make our natural skincare products. My main goal when starting our journey with natural skincare is that we make high quality products and sell them at afforadble prices so that everyone has the chance to experience how wonderful they are and how much they can transform your skin! Cutting out toxic ingredients in my life has been the biggest game changer and we want other people to do the same so they can start living a toxic free life. All of our goat milk products contain fresh goat milk we get from our goats on the farm, natural oils, and non-toxic fragrance or essential oils. What makes our products different from others? The truth is, there are so many amazing natural skincare makers out there. We would never say our products are better than anyone else’s but what we can say is we put every ounce of effort and love we have into the products we make, starting from the care of our goats to the final packaging of our products. When purchasing from Depew Family Farm just know you are supporting a family that works hard and LOVES what they do and also loves and cares for you!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
We would love to see more people using natural skin care products, whether that be you shopping with us or another maker! We all should be more aware of the ingredients label when we purchase stuff, especially skin care, and know if it’s safe to be using on our skin. I always tell people, “Your skin is your biggest organ so would you really want those chemicals entering into your body?’ We would love in the next few years to continue to grow and keep share our amazing skin loving products to the world. We are so thankful to have our products in a local store in Church Hill, TN, Red Door Antiques and More. We hope to be able to expand into more store locally or even around the country! Being a mother to a toddler while also managing two businesses has been one of the most difficult things in my life but I will continue to push through because I believe in our products and have seen first-hand the amazing results they can have on your skin!
