Rising Stars: Meet Jaysin Jefferson of Sequoyah Hills, Knoxville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaysin Jefferson

Jaysin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have a background in graphic design and fine arts, and back in 2012 I decided to leave my career as a union electrician to pursue my passion. That’s when I first opened Idle Hands in York, PA. I moved to Knoxville in August of 2023 and opened Idle Hands in Sequoyah Hills and the shop has been growing ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business has its growing pains and moving to a new city in 2023 was definitely scary. Getting my business name and the quality of my art out to the public was difficult. My line of work depends on word of mouth and social media to get your name out – something that I am still working on building. I travel to Pennsylvania and conventions to attend to my clients so navigating that schedule can become a little tricky now that I’m more established in Knoxville.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in anime and video game tattoos. I mostly work with large-scale pieces and bright, vibrant colors. I think what sets me and Idle Hands apart from others is not only the quality of the art, but also the quality of the customer service that we provide. Idle Hands’ goal is to always make the clients feel as comfortable and informed as possible; we want everyone to leave with a new tattoo that they love but we also want them to leave feeling like they had a good day while getting tattooed. Personally, I am most proud of my designs. Whether it’s a custom design or something a client has already planned out, I take pride in the attention to detail and accuracy of each and every tattoo that I design.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The best way to work with or support me or Idle Hands is to just come visit us, schedule a consultation and get a tattoo! We have four artists working at the shop currently and as a group we cover a wide range of styles, so there’s something for everyone. We enjoy exploring pop-up events and flash tattoo days. We recently collaborated with Hummingbird Apothecary South to host a pop-up tattoo shop during the AMBC Fall Festival, and we’d love to look at more opportunities like this in the future.
